Windows 10 Update Reset my Computer Settings.

Hi! After I installed the Windows 10 update onto my MSI computer, it reset all my programs and settings and wiped some preferences and data from my device.

I saw someone else post about this, the help recieved said it was 'unlikely' to have been caused by the update, however, the same thing just happened to me, therefore that 'unlikely' theory is incorrect.

How do I fix this, aside from resetting everything as it is extremely infuriating and inconvenient, as well as how do I prevent this from happening again?

This is my laptop for college. I can't lose files and data every time I update Windows 10, or gamble on which updates will install correctly and which will eat things. If I lose an assignment file, or files from my documents or anything go missing again, and I needed to hand that in- I can't begin to explain how angry I'd be. Might even turn off updates altogether.

Thanks.

this is rediculous.

Fair enough. I'm running Windows home.

That doesn't mean I want to sit at every device in my home network and turn network discovery back on every time there is an update. This is really dumb.

Roll out your updates.

Keep the settings I have configured.

Making me "fix it" EVERY TIME means you broke it.

I am having the exact same issue. I just updated to the April update and I am having issues with :

- ASUS Realtek sound configuration is reset during the update

- I disable Windows 10 Fast Startup because it creates issues with my mouse and keyboard and boots the computer after I try to turn it off

I have had the same thing happen multiple times. Restoring only does any good until the update happens again.

Microsoft has a VERY big iisue - Your updates are causing considerable amount of lost time and disruption. Your update has reset computer settings and erased and custom setting after update. This is completely disruption in work centers and possibel threat to business operations.

You guys really need to turn off this udpate and fix it. We have stopped all updates for OS because of this.

I just came here to report this issue, and lo and behold this seems like a common theme.

The latest update has wiped a lot of my personal data.

It looks like its making considerable changes to the registry too?

I operate several programs which have since had their licenses 'deactivated', and thus are no longer functional. And of course, I cant just re-enter the serial num to reactivate these as according to the software vendor, my license was never logged as being deactivated in the first place. So now I have to go through the long process of contacting all the vendors and try to resolve this through correspondence... thanks for causing a headache start to my working week, Microsoft.

Microsoft really screwed this up. Who ever approved this update should be fired. Of Course Microsoft doesn't care and we will never get apology. No wonder why so many people are switching to Apple and Unix.

No... no no no no no no. We are not going to be listing our computer setups. We all have different computer setups. This is a pointless step.

The issue is in YOUR end!

this is a chronic problem

It happened to a few minutes about. I was restarting my computer and got the message that it was updating and not to turn off.

It then restarted and when it opened -- all my settings were going  -- default files, home page, it even took away my fire fox browser. All my icons were gone etc.

This not the first time this has happened.  It happens after EVERY Windows 10 up-grade.

Microsoft owes me hours and hours of resetting.
