This might occur when some of the Windows update Components got corrupted.
I would suggest you to run Windows Update troubleshooter and try updating again to Windows 10 and check if it helps.
Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter:

Type troubleshooting in the search area on the taskbar and select Troubleshooting.

Select Troubleshooting.
-
Select View all on the top left corner.
-
Click Windows Update.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

Thank you for posting your response. I understand your concern, we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.
This issue may occurs due to an error in Windows Update. I would like to suggest that you perform the methods mentioned below and check if the issue arises.
Method 1: Windows Update Troubleshooter.
Refer to the link below to know how to troubleshoot Windows Update.
Note: Article for 10 also applicable for Windows 10

Method 2: Reset Windows Update Component.
- Right click on Start Menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
- Stop the BITS service, the Windows Update service, and the Cryptographic service. To do this in command prompt, type the following commands. Make sure that you press Enter after you type each command.
net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc
- Delete the qmgr*.dat files. To do this, at a command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter:
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
