Windows 10 Task Manager Not Showing Network Usage?

Hello,

I installed Windows 10 Education last night and updated my drivers (which are from my Motherboard's Manufacturer for Windows 10 x64) and now I'm noticing that the Task Manager on the Process view doesn't show network usage. All the time it shows 0% usage while the Performance Tab showing that data is going in/out in the throughput window. The Resource Monitor shows network usage, by the way. Is there any way to fix it?

I've a Network Manager built in with my Ethernet Adapter driver and seems like there's no way to disable it and can't uninstall as it disables the Ethernet. It didn't happen in Windows 8 or 8.1 though.

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I can understand the inconvenience caused and will be glad to assist you with the issue.

The possible cause could be if the Update speed option in Task Manager is Disabled. I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if the issue persists.

  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Under the View option, go to Update Speed.
  3. Ensure that it is not paused. You can set it Normal.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps. Please reply for further queries.

I did try what you suggested and the problem persists. This is only happening on my Desktop PC with Windows 10 Education x64. On my Notebook with Windows 10 Pro x64, there's no problem. I've attached a screenshot so that you can see the problem.

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 10 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: Check the title “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” for reverting to normal mode.

Note: This also applies to Windows 10

Just go to Network and Sharing Center. Click on your network. This should show status window. Next click Properties and uncheck "Virtualbox Bridged Networking Driver" or Network Filter Driver or any 1 by 1.

Same problem with a system running Windows10 Familly x64.  Cable connected or WIFI network does the same , no network activity shown on the task manager, but any other applications are showing correctly the activity.

the issue is purely on the task manager.

Hi,

I would like to ask you:

 - Are you using any third-party security software on your PC?

Try to test the PC in Safe mode with networking and let us know the results.

To start Windows 10 in safe mode with networking:

1.    Search for Settings from the taskbar and select it from the search results.

2.    Select Update & security and click on Recovery.

3.    Go to Advanced startup and select Restart now.

4.    After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot >  Advanced options > Startup Settings >Restart.

5.    After your PC restarts, select a startup setting as Safe Mode with Networking by pressing the corresponding number.

In addition to that,

Update Network and Chipset Drivers

Refer to the following article and update all the drivers available.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

If you are unable to find the drivers for Windows 10, you may try to install the drivers in compatibility mode with Windows 8.1.

Firstly download the driver from your computer manufacturer’s website and then install it.

Refer (Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/older-programs-compatible-version-windows

Note: This link also applies to Windows 10.

Do reply with the results. We will be glad to assist you further if required.

Regards,
Sahil Bali
