Windows 10 takes long time to shut down

Original title: Windows 10

Hi,

After upgrading to Windows 10, i noticed that my PC boots up in seconds,   but takes an unusually long time to shut down.   I am using a desktop PC with an SSD.  i tried turning off all apps (virus protection, malware detector etc.) before shutting down, but it didn't make any difference.  I just wondered if anyone else is experiencing this,  and if i should be concerned.

thank you,

Cindy T

Hi Cindy,

Thank you posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We are glad to help you.

You can run the Power troubleshooter to adjust your computer's power settings. The Power troubleshooter checks things like your computer's timeout settings, which determine how long the computer waits before turning off the monitor display or entering sleep mode. Adjusting these settings can help you conserve power and extend your computer's battery life.

I suggest you to perform the methods given below and check if it works:

Method 1: Follow these steps to run troubleshooter:

1. Press the ‘Windows’ key on the keyboard.

2. Type Troubleshooting and then press Enter.

3. Select Troubleshooting. Click on iew All and select Power.

4. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2: Change the “Power plans” settings.

A power plan is a collection of hardware and system settings (like display, sleep, etc.) that manages how your PC uses power. The power plans you can use depend on the kind of PC you have.

Click on the below given link to “How to create and delete a power plan”.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/power-plans-faq (also applies to Windows 10)

Hope this information helps. Feel free to contact us for further queries. We will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Jenith
