Windows 10 recycle bin MISSING

I have been looking for recycle bin on windows 10 since the day it was upgraded. I can not find it anywhere on my laptop. All I come across is CDF-MS file titled $recycle.bin.cdf-ms of 564 bytes.

I double click and try to open but nothing works. What is this file and where is my recycle bin?

Type "Recycle' in the Search bar to the right of the Start Button and the first choice offered should be "Show or hide icons on the Desktop" dialog from Control Panel.  That will enable you to display the icon on your desktop.

Hello Keith,

I have tried doing that several times now but this seems to be registry error while downloading Windows 10. I am trying to fix it right now by creating new folder and adding reg code etc. The icon has come back but it's strange that it has a check box from where it can be deleted anytime.

Also since I have created it as a new folder on my computer, it is behaving like a folder and I can even rename it!!

Let me look for a permanent solution as this seems only temporary solution.

Thanks for your help.

Any folder you create won't act like the Recycle Bin.

Does it appear when you clcick the drop list on the File Explorer address bar?

If not, have you tried creating another user profile & seeing if it appears when you log in to that profile?

Hi again,

Yes it shows under file below 'frequent places'. I have been searching for some time now and today I found the solution. I was asked to create a new folder and then name it with the registry code {64......} something. This converted my folder to recycle bin. Now I have unchecked the item check boxes so it is behaving like a normal recycle bin that laptops usually have with windows.

Still it does not feel very proper to me as I will always know that it's there because I have added it. Though it's functioning normal I will have to keep my eye on it in case my files don't get recycled.

I was happy with 8.1 and Windows 10 destroyed my laptop...totally. Regret my decision now.

I have tried this several times, and I just can't get the icon on the desktop. I have one file that I accidently deleted. I already restored the file in the recycle bin, (I think) but now can't find that recycle bin anywhere!

I have tried everything is said here before, but it didn’t work for me as well. I tried this and worked. Go to Quick access, then choose “View” (on the top of toolbar– File, home, share, view). Then choose “options”, then choose “change folder and search options”.

In the Folder Options go to ‘view’. In the advanced settings scroll down until you find a folder ‘hidden files and folders’. There are 2 options. I chose ‘show hidden files, folders and drives’. And the recycle bin icon finally appeared.
