Windows 10 Product Key

Hello,

I recently bought an laptop from internet and everything was fine until yesterday when I started getting message screen from windows stating : "YOUR WINDOWS LICENSE WILL EXPIRE SOON. YOU NEED TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS IN SETTINGS."

I go and check my Settings - Activation to find this:

I searched web on this matter and found out that this windows has a product key from some organization and in order to continue using it I have to connect to its network. (Which I'm not able to do)

I have 29 days left to do this and after that my windows will deactivated.

I have solution for this. I have an old laptop with Windows 10 Home Premium on it but I'm not currently using it since its motherboard is broken. (reason for buying new laptop).

My current version on laptop (new one) is Windows 10 Professional.

I have found product key from my old laptop on back side of it.

My question here is.

Do I need to install new version(home version) in order to be able to use product key from old laptop?

Do I need to deactivate windows on my old laptop ( I still have hard drive) in order to use it on my new one?

Hi Filip, it looks like the Windows on that laptop is a hacked version . . .

Open C:\Windows in file explorer and search for KMS

If you find anything with KMS then Windows is activated with a KMS Emulator

The problem with the Windows version on your other laptop, it is probably an OEM version and as such it would be locked onto that system

On the new system are there any Windows Stickers on the bottom with a product key?

Hello Dave, thank you for reply.

You're right. Windows on my old laptop is OEM version.

I did an search for KMS like this:

I hope I did it right.

When it comes to stickers I have none for windows. There are only for AMD and Intel.

Hi Filip, in your Windows folder is there a AutoKMS folder?

With regards to stickers on the new laptop, those are on the palm rest . . .

Turn the laptop upside down, is there a Windows sticker there, if not remove the battery and see if there is one under the battery

Here instructions how you can resolve it:
https://windows10.help/blogs/entry/49-why-does-...

Windows 10 Activation reports your license will soon expire.
This can happen for a number of reasons:

You copied a Windows 10 Pro off the Internet (usually a volume license - organization - key) and changed on a Windows 10 Home installation. Windows 10 Pro is not free. If this is what you did, you will need to reinstall the previous edition or version you were running. You inadvertently installed the wrong edition.

The copy of Windows 10 you download and upgrade from will correspond with the edition of Windows you have installed, if it does not, this is why you might be experiencing problems activating:

Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8.0 Core, Windows 8.1 Core will install Windows 10 Home

Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.0 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro will install Windows 10 Pro

To find out if you have the right edition installed:
Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Edition.

If the edition of Windows 10 installed does not correspond with the edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 you were previously running, then you need to reinstall the right edition.

Hello Andre.

None of this is my doing. I got the laptop from internet (ebay like website used in my country). So I dont know how to confirm any of that information.

Hi Flip, I suppose your only option is to clean install Windows 10 Home and see if Microsoft Support will activate it with the Product Key from your Other laptop

Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-downlo...
to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS)

If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS, go into your BIOS and make the following changes:
1. Insert the Bootable Media
2. Disable Secure Boot
3. Enable Legacy Boot
4. If Available enable CSM
5. If Required enable USB Boot
6. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order
7. Save BIOS changes and restart your System

Then once Windows 10 is installed and you reach the Desktop
Open the Settings App
Go to Update and Security - Activation
Anter the product key from the other laptop and see if it accepts it . . .

If not, contact Microsoft Support (at the link below) and explain your situation and they will probably give you an exemption code to activate Windows 10 Home

And you don't see a COA sticker anywhere that can help you determine which version and edition originally came preinstalled?

Download Show Key Plus:
https://github.com/Superfly-Inc/ShowKeyPlus/rel...

Follow the instructions how to use it to find the original key and determine which version and edition of Windows it belongs (if it exists)

Apparently what is installed now is using a volume license client KMS key. You either need to look for the COA sticker or purchase an entirely new license for the computer.
