Hello Christine,
Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.
From the description provided, I understand that you are unable to login to Windows.
Please follow the below recommendations before we can proceed.
Please follow the below steps and check if it helps.
Obtain the Windows 10 Installation media from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home
Insert the installation media and see if the following suggestion helps, if any how the boot manager is missing (although chances are less).
Follow the path: Trouble Shoot > Advanced Options >Command Prompt
Type in the following command: net user username password /add
Note: Replace ‘username’ and ‘password’ with your desired username and password.
The above step will help you create a new user account.
Now check if you can log in using the same user account after a system restart. If you can then try to follow the below steps to copy old files to newly created User Profile.
1. Go to C:\Users\(Your-Corrupted-Profile-Name)\
2. Copy all files except three files :
NtUser.dat
NtUser.ini
NtUser.log
3. Go to C:\Users\(New-User-Profile-name)\
4. Paste all those copied files here.
Hope the above information was helpful. If you need further information, feel free to write to us and we would be happy to help you.
Thank You.

I can't figure out where you come up with all this automatic updating. You created this problem and now I can't start my wife's computer. You updated her and she came to me but it was too late to stop it. All three computers experienced similar experiences. I've got two running but worked on my wife's for 3 hours now and I am repairing the installation which means I will have to reinstall all the programs and apps she had on there. She is not good with these things.
This was 10 times worse than windows 7 which was a gem over lousy vista.
You should provide a boot disk download so we can make a disk to get on and then resign in which the update will not let her do. I know a dozen people who experienced this and came to me and I am pulling my hair out. They are upset that I am resetting but it is the only thing working so far and I don't even know yet if this first one is going to work and a have a lot more.
About repair disks, I don't know anyone who makes them except me. They can't use mine because of my personal information and id. This is a horrible situation you recreated. Get back to me as follows;
Charles E Heroux III, *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. I used my *** Email address is removed for privacy *** id because it is a microsoft account and I was under the impression that you had to use a microsoft product to log in. Quite frankly I prefer outside programs because I don't trust you.
There has to be an easier way to fix these computers that is saying the profile won't work. How did the update reck the profile??
I'll now add that you can repair windows 10 leaving files on the computer using a corrupt profilesrv. It reversed and put everything back where it was. Now I think the only way is to erase everything and start fresh which is a no brainer. But you need a better way for users who do not back up or make repair disks.
