Windows 10 Media Creation Tool setup stuck at "Getting updates"

It has been stuck here for 7-8 hours. No system process seems to be downloading anything too.

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

Please answer this question to get more clarity on this issue.

  • Do you have a wired net connection?

You may boot the computer in a clean boot state and check if the issue persists. When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are several programs that start automatically and run in the background that may interfere with the program. These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs. When you perform a clean startup procedure, you prevent these programs from starting automatically.

mine had hung at 0% too but did eventually complete . the delay was caused by  it trying to install updates. I think it was party my fault because I had  installed win 7  fresh first  but hadn't installed all the updates on it first  as  thought the win 10 installation would be   a whole new code base.  an MS tech got it  moving on mine by running the windows update fixit tool  which seemed to clean up the stuck update and  move the win 10 installation on  after that it completed successfully.

This happened to me but in my case it has now been 12 hours. What could be the issue? I called Microsoft and was told to call Dell, Dell claims it is Microsoft issue. I have three other systems with same hardware and configuration that upgraded just fine.

Greetings from a year and a half after this thread was created.

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium Dell Inspiron. I've tried to get Win 10 to work but have the same problem as the original poster. It hangs for hours when it looks for updates. I'm also having the same problem on my Win 8 HP Tablet. Neither wants to see or seek to find updates. Sure, they say so, but it never happens.

Dell: I've tried correcting the problem by:

1: DL and running Windows Update Troubleshooter. Reboot and didn't work.

2: I even tried the fresh boot and trying update again. Nada.

Since I received the Dell, the Windows Update hasn't worked. It keeps saying something like "Getting Updates," but freezes and does nothing.

I know, this is an old version of Windows 7 and I am since unfamiliar with it. (I've worked with all versions of Windows since the creation of DOS 6.22, I've grown up with it. It's been years since I touched a Windows 7 that I had to refresh myself with help files online!)

Anyway, how can I get the Win 10 MCT to work on this PC?

As for the HP Tablet: I'm not working on it, or even trying to update its 8 to 8.1 until I'm done with the Dell. I might learn something that will work on it.

Sorry for the Rant, but I'm out of my league here and need honest help.

Thanks,

Lady Adellandra
