Windows 10 May 2021 update has killed my Wifi. How do I fix please?!

Windows 10 May Update removes wifi settings completely! It’s not even an option to reconnect as the icon has completely disappeared.

I’ve been trying to fix for the last 8 hours, reset drivers, did updates on adapter settings, rebooted router, installed new latest 2021 driver from another, computer, windsock cmd, rolled back to previous drivers.

All started with me logging in to google ads on Chrome last week, kept bombing and whole computer shutting down ( I use ads daily) Just been getting worse. Net regularly dropping out. Then today trying to do a Zoom meeting and booted out again with no connectivity at all now. Contacted net provider all networks fine and iPads all working so know it’s not that. Ran a ping to check hardware that’s all fine too so definitely Windows 10.

UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING! Got so much work and can’t do any of it. Well happy - not!

Any ideas from the community please or Microsoft themselves especially on how soon this will be fixed?

Thanks,

Victoria

Good Day VLudemann,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.
I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

-Press Windows key + X
-Go to Settings
-Click Update and Security
-Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.
-Look for Internet Connection and run the troubleshooter.

-Press Windows key + X
-Go to Device Manager
-Expand the Network Adapters
-Look for Wireless driver that was installed
-Right click and Update
-Look for "Browse my computer for driver
-Let me pick drivers available drivers
-Choose an old driver and use it.

Restart your computer using cleanboot.

1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig

2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.

3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.

4. Click on services tab

5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services

6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All

7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.

8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.

9. Click OK, Apply and close the configuration utility

10. Restart your pc and try to connect.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver from the manufacturers website.
What is the exact model of your computer?

To check the system model proceed with these steps.
-Press Windows key + R
-Type msinfo32 and hit enter.
-Look for the System Model and post it here.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.
Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

Sincerely,
Carlo T.

If an update to Windows has 'killed' your WiFi, that's a sign that your WiFi network wasn't setup correctly to begin with.

WiFi networks are setup and subsequently managed in your router, not in Windows. Your router has its own operating system. It doesn't use Windows, so an update to Windows won't affect it. Now I'll show you how to setup your WiFi network the right way.

What you'll need:

1- a WiFi router (obviously!); and

2- a WiFi adapter that's supported on Windows 10 and compatible with your router.

Once you have installed the WiFi adapter - if it wasn't already installed - locate your router's owners manual, where you'll find step-by-step instructions for establishing a WiFi network. And that's all you need to do. Routers have hundreds of scary-looking settings. Don't worry about them. Just follow the owner's manual and you'll be fine.

Here are two tips to smooth your way:

1- If you originally tried to setup your WiFi network in Windows, undo what you did.

2- Before you start to setup your WiFi network in your router, first reset your router. The owner's manual will show you how. This will allow you to use your router's setup wizard, which will make the job even easier.
