Windows 10 Login Screen OSK/PIN Pad

On my Wife's Tablet, Samsung Series 7 Slate, the Login PIN Pad doesn't appear at all, but half the time she gets the whole OSK which is sorta irritating since it really kinda slows down the point of a quick access pin number pad.

We are a household of Windows 10 Desktops 2 Custom hand build gaming Desktops, 5 Tablets (2-Microsoft Surface Pro 2, 1-Samsung XE700T1C, 1-Samsung XR500T1A, 1-Samsung Series 7 Slate Tablet PC)  and soon as it is released we will have 5-Windows Phone 10 devices. Every device has been that upgraded that can be in our house and all my in-law's devices too, some with no difficulty, but others with a bit more heartache. I have been able to overcome every issue thus far except this one.

Most of the time no onscreen keypad/keyboard for entering the login wont even appear and we have to use the ease of access to make it work, and when the keyboard does actually pop up its actually the full keyboard and not the pin pad, her tablet is the only one that does this. Is there a way to reset this option somewhere?

It did not help ...  tried a reboot then creating the new pin and also creating it directly after removing it with or without reboot.  Mine may be a slight bit different in that the 10 key pad will return without doing anything ... every now and then.  And it will continue to be available until I reboot again.  Then gone until it "decides" to return.  It's one of the handiest and most frustrating things in windows all the way back to just after Dos 2.2.  Anything that you can offer I'll try ..   Oh one more thing it will always return if I'm close enough to the laptop to put my finger in the pin box, but I'm looking for it to be as it was in the beginning, there without fail .. pass the bisquits!  ..

ps  mine is a laptop not a tablet.  I get no error messsages and the only change was from you guys when it first started after one of the fall updates 2015  and I was just happy the most everything else was still running to try running this down..   so again thanks for any assistance you can give.

DO and GS, why is it that we are the only three people in the world that knows of this login pin key pad? I have an HP desktop Windows 10 upgraded from a Windows 7. I enjoyed and liked very much this pin pad appearing magically on the Windows login screen, without any action from me. I just clicked my pin numbers with the mouse on the pin pad and the login occurred. This seemed independent of the osk? It has just stopped showing up? Now, I either open the osk with the ease of use function or use the regular keyboard :( All articles I have read talk of the numlock key or osk and it's number pad, how to show it or how to hide it. Even NY, the MS engineer above is talking of the osk in his answer.

Please somebody that understands this login pin key pad, please provide some help to get it back.

Hi,

I had the same problem. I've created a PIN on my tablet for login, but it appeared only for the first login. Important to note that I have my on-screen keyboard set to show the full layout, so I was only getting the regular OSK and not the PIN pad on logins.

I thought, give it a try and set it to the regular touch layout. And with that the layout changes automatically to the PIN pad style while on the login screen.

I hope this helps.

P.

I'm having a problem the the PIN pad too. When I'm at the screen for the login, I tap the pin field and the pad pops up briefly, then disappears. If I keep tapping, it keeps popping up and disappearing until 3-6 taps later, the pad stays up and I can use it.  This is on a brand new HP Envy and it's super irritating.  My old Lenovo laptop with WIndows 8.1 never had this problem.

There are four people... The incredibly useful mouse clickable pin pad one day appeared on my Windows 10 logon screen (64-bit non-touch desktop) and survived a number of updates. Microsoft, soon it will be 10 months that this problem persists without any meaningful input from your side. I wonder if it wasn't some third party software that did it but haven't been able to identify it.

Hi,

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. It can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC.

I wouldn't consider this suggestion to use Safe Mode a joke. The purpose of Safe Mode is to make sure any third-party software a user has installed on their PC is not causing problems by temporarily disabling most of it. Users are the only people responsible for making sure the software they install on their systems is good quality and not some poor quality, bug-ridden mess causing conflicts or shady adware-related type of software that's sucking up too much system resources. The root problem of the majority of software conflicts is people are not that mindful when installing third-party software on their PC after they've bought one. There's a lot of software out there whose only function is to make the publisher money regardless of the impact on computer resources it sucks up such as ad-related software.

Most software like this is usually bundled with some other popular software but people blindly click on the Next button during installation without reading the following screens and opting out of any additional software installs that are bundled with it. In my view everything should be opt-in, not opt-out but the seedy business mindsets of marketing types who force this opt-out nonsense are uninterested in behaving in a considerate manner to their customers so all this stuff gets on a user's system without their knowledge. When I'm given a family PC to sort out because it's running slowly and I discover problematic software and ask "Why did you install this?", I invariably see a look of surprise on their face followed by "I don't remember installing that."

In the end, a PC is not like a kitchen toaster or refrigerator that 'just works'. It's like owning a car that you need to spend some thought on keeping in good working order.

It's easy to start Windows in a somewhat clean state for ruling out issues cause by third-party software installed by the user. In Windows 10 just type msconfig into the Cortana search box or press the Windows key and R key to bring up the Run dialog box and type msconfig in there. Once msconfig has launched you should see a screen where you can select from a choice of 'Startup selections'. The default setting is 'Normal startup'. Select 'Diagnostic startup', click Apply and then OK and restart your machine. You can then see if the problem persists. If it doesn't then some software you installed on the system is the issue. If it continues to persist it's then safe to suspect it's either a driver issue and something for the manufacturer of your PC to solve or it's an actual Windows 10 operating system fault, but the first step has to be some effort on the part of the user experiencing issues to first rule out all the stuff they have installed on the system since buying it surely? After you're finished you can run msconfig again and change the setting back to 'Normal startup'.

I have a Dell Latitude Laptop/ touchscreen that I purchased a few weeks ago.  All was working well using Windows 10 until a Windows 10 update yesterday.  Now I am experiencing this very same problem - ie. the Pin Number pad no longer appears on the screen to log in.  I have not added any new software to this computer.  It has to have something to do with the Windows 10 update.  Can someone help me reset the 10 Pin Number Keypad so that it displays on sign in.   There is no point in me running msconfig as this is directly related to the Windows 10 update.

Thanks for looking into a solution for me.  Dean
