(Windows 10) jump lists missing from all taskbar icons

I recently noticed all taskbar icons no longer show my recent files or any of my pinned files. Browsers also do not show actions like "new window" either. Right clicking them only shows "unpin from taskbar" and nothing else, or if running it shows "close window" and nothing else.

The "show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar" is toggled on (it was never turned off) but the jump lists still do not show. Restarted and no change. There have been no updates or changes to hardware or any new installed software since I last saw them so I'm unsure what has caused the error.

It is imperative for me to have these back. Can anyone advise what has happened / how to resolve this.

Greetings. My name is Anis. I'll be glad to help you today.

It appears that the task bar is malfunctioning.
Please perform the following steps to reset the Task bar and Start menu.

Close all open windows.

Type PowerShell at the Start Menu. When it appears right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
Now, copy and enter the following command.

Get-AppXPackage-AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Wait for the process to complete.
Restart the PC.
Now check the Task Bar functionality.

Let me know how it goes.

In my case, the Jump Lists are missing ONLY from the icons in the Start menu (both in the app list and the pinned items). The application icons on the Task Bar DO show the Jump Lists with up-to-date recent file history. (I don't have Quick Access turned on in File Explorer, so I don't know whether the problem is there.)

Settings > Personalization > Start > "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar and in File Explorer Quick Access" is still set to On.

This problem started immediately after taking the April 2025 Windows 10 updates.

At first I thought it was just that the recent file history had been cleared by the update. But even after launching applications a few times, I realized there was still no Jump List. Only today did I learn that items on the taskbar do have Jump Lists, and their recent file history contains both very recently opened files as well as ones opened before the update.

So it appears something in the update broke the Start menu.
