Windows 10 - Icons pinned to start disappear when dragged or resized.

I have no issues pinning icons to start but issues begin when I attempt to resize them or reorganize them.

When resizing, they simply disappear but continue to occupy space. When dragged, the icons have the little red circle with a line through it and the start menu closes so I'm unable to drop them in a different location on the start bar.

I noticed this this morning. The only software changes to the system have been an update to GeForce driver 375.57 and Origin/Battlefield 1.

This issue appears to impact all icons pinned to start.

Has anyone experienced this and been able to resolve it?

I am experiencing the same error - if I resize any tile (from standard medium size to wide for example) the tile disappears. App is still shown as pinned to start if I right click on app name on app list.

Only way to restore tile is to unpin app from start and re-pin.

Then app tile reappears but at the same medium size and always as the lowest tile on the most extreme right of the menu.

This is not the same on other PCs which I have not updated to the latest Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3199986). New tiles appear on the bottom left

See print screens below

- photo 1 - highlights tile to be changed

- photo 2 - shows tile disappears after changing to medium width

- photo 3 - shows app still pinned to the start menu even thought the tile has disappeared

- photo 4 - shows re-pinned tile appearing bottom right of start menu

Hi Russell,

Let us try to run the System File Checker. It is a utility in Windows that allow users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To  run the System File Checker in Windows 10, follow these steps:

1. Right-click (or press and hold) the Start button, then select Command Prompt (Admin).
2. Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Let us know how it goes.

i got the same problem, win10 on latest update.

filesystem is not harmed. even happened to me with complete clean win installation.

(task manager icon after resizing to small)

not sure if this is helpful:

restarting the explorer will fix the problem for a minute or two until the same tiled disappear again. maybe some kind of reloading or updating.

it is not happening to all tiles just to some -  always the same.

only happened to resized -> small tiles

repin or resetting the cache has no longterm influence.

increasing number of cachable icons for the explorer wont change anything as well.

happened to all kind of software. Office, Windows programms, any third party software, even folder icons like trash bin.
