windows 10 hotspot speed significantly slows after a few minutes

Hi, my windows 10 hotspot was working great previously, until I reinstalled windows 10 on my desktop. Whenever I turn on the hotspot feature, I get fast wifi. However, after a few minutes, the wifi speed of the hotspot significantly slows down and some apps on my phone(which is connected to the hotspot) say "no internet connection." The hotspot still works during this time, but the wifi speed is very slow and some apps load things very slowly, or not at all. The hotspot was working perfectly before I reinstalled windows, please help, thanks.(OS build 19042.928)

Hi pprithamm .

More details are needed:

1) Is it a desktop PC or a laptop?

2) Is it only the mobile hotspot network that slows down or also the internet connection in general?

3) Is the speed slow even if you connect a device other than your phone to the mobile hotspot?

4) What is the exact model of your wi-fi adapter?

5) What is the speedtest value when you connect to the mobile hotspot and what is the speedtest value when you connect to the internet directly?

3.  Yes, the speed gets slow on all devices that are connected after a few minutes

4. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260

5. internet directly(ethernet) = ~300 Mbps down/up.      Mobile hotspot ~40 Mbps initially and then ~5 kbps after a few minutes

Hi pprithamm ,

but if you connect with your smartphone directly to your wi-fi network and run the speed test, what is the speed you detect? And this speed remains stable? The speed test you performed with the PC connected via ethernet is not comparable as you used a cable connection.

Try disabling Power Saver in the mobile hotspot settings and try again. Otherwise try to reset the network: Settings> Network and Internet> Status, click on the side on Network Reset, follow the instructions. If you are using third party Firewall / Antivirus or VPN software, try to uninstall them temporarily. Only use Windows Defender Firewall when testing.
