Windows 10 freezes when using Google Maps in Chrome.

When I go to maps.google.com in Chrome the PC freezes up. I then have to long press the power button and restart the PC.
This error is reproducible for me and happens every time I try to use Google Maps.
It happens mostly when you turn your map to satellite view.

Good Day AkhileshDhurkunde,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.
I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

During this process are you able to check the task manager to check what are the apps and services running in the background.

To access it , press CTRL + ALT + Delete in your keyboard and go to task manager for us to check what are the services running in the background, take a screenshot and post it here.

For the meantime here's the steps you can try, perform a cleanboot to stop the apps and services that are running in background which are not needed.

1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig

2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.

3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.

4. Click on services tab

5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services

6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All

7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.

8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.

9. Click OK, Apply and close the configuration utility

10. Restart your pc and observe, try to access the maps.

If issue persists, you can check for updates and install any available updates to keep your device up to date.

-Press Windows key + X
-Go to Settings
-Click Update and Security
-Check for Updates and download and install the,

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.
Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

Sincerely,
Carlo T.

I have a user in our environment experiencing the exact same behavior.  I had their PC on my workbench for updates on 3/10/2021 and ran multiple Windows Updates at that time.  The problem persists.  Windows 10, Google Chrome for browser.  The user can only successfully use Google Maps in satellite view if no programs other than Teams and Outlook are running.  If any other programs are running, the system locks up and a forced shutdown is the only way to get out of the lockup.

This issue has also been happening to me, which I am using a Windows 10, Google Chrome and Google Map satellite view. The crazy thing is the entire computer freezes. No CTRL+ALT+DELETE will work. It freezes every app and you have to long press Power. I usually have Outlook, Teams, an excel or word docs open, and sometimes they won't even back-up save so all my work is lost...

This doesn't solve the issue.  I only have critical items enabled during startup and I have the most recent security update.   I found through Google that you have to erase all of your cache and reload Chrome.

I've had the same problem in Windows 10 for the past couple of months.  It not only happens in satellite view in Chrome, but also when using Google Maps in Edge and even Google Earth.  It's now also happening even if I stay in map view (not satellite), after panning around the map.  It's a complete computer freeze that requires the power cycle with a long pressing of my power button.  I'm using about an 18-month old Dell XPS15.

Altering PC to stop errant app from crashing is not a solution, it is a band-aid at best.
One would hope that Google would provide solution with as popular a problem this is.

Has this problem for 1 year now and finally found a fix! Go to chrome://flags/ and search for ANGLE and select OpenGL. No more crashes!
