Hello jimshannon47,

I'm Jin, a fellow Windows 10 user and an independent advisor. I can see that you are unable to complete the installation of the 2004 feature update for Windows 10.

Try using the media creation tool to manually update your device to the latest version.
https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win...

1. Click the "Download tool now" button.
2. Once downloaded run the MediaCreationTool2004.exe file.
3. Accept the terms.
4. Select Upgrade this PC, then hit Next.
5. Proceed with the prompts.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback.

May I suggest you try the following:

FIRST:  Go to Adminstrative Tools>Disk Cleanup>Cleanup System Files (if a big update is stuck it will take awhile to think)>make sure the Windows Update Cleanup, Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files boxes are checked>Now Run the Cleanup

NEXT:  Go to Administrative Tools>Services>Windows Installer>Start then Stop the service

Now down a little further on the list find Windows Update>Start then Stop the service

REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER GO TO WINDOWS UPDATE AND TRY AGAIN

Although I don't have your problem I think this may fix it.  Hope it works!

Thanks Lee,

After spending ages trying to find a solultion to fix the dreaded error code which prevented me updating an elderly laptop to Win 10 v2004 I found your advice here.

This one works......

I updated an old Dell studio laptop (Intel Core Duo) which had previously refused to update even when I used the Windows 10 Update Assistant, due to a persistant error code 0x80070005.

Also a newer Dell desktop (Core I7) which also had an error code, this time it was 0X80070020 was also fixed.

Many thanks for your advice and expertise in helping me to sort this problem out.

I am running the Windows Pro Insider Preview, Evaluation copy Build 20197.rsprerelease.200818-1420

Every day for the last week, update has been trying to download and install the update with an error code  that was different from todays error code of 0x80070005
I have no idea what to do and am really tired of having to wait for install and update to end up with error and hit retry.
How can I get help?

I had the same error code as Jim, when trying to download and install Windows 2004 on my 8 year-old Sony Vaio. I followed Lee's suggestions to the letter (although I couldn't stop the Windows Update service). However, eventually I was able to successfully install the Feature update. I say eventually, as it did take about 8 and a half hours to 'get things ready', download, install and configure the update, but all seems fine. Thank you Lee for that.
