Windows 10 Element Not Found Error

I upgraded to windows 10 two months ago and have loved it even though there were a few quirky problems up front especially for my Alienware X51 R2.  But I found easy workarounds and have had no further problems until now.  Today I was using my computer as usual gaming and whatnot.  But then decided to change my background as I do that often.  When going through my photos I finally found one that I wanted and tried to click on it.  I receive an error message stating "Element Not Found".  So I try another photo.  Same thing.  After many try's to no avail my frustration gets the best of me.  I cannot access any of the photos on my computer.  This is no good.  I can access music an videos but no photos.  What gives microsoft?  I know windows 10 is new and all but this bug affects many people in many different ways.  Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated.

Try rebooting the system few times and check. If the issue still persists, try the below methods and check if that helps:

Method 1: Run the SFC.

Follow the below steps:

  1. Open Command Prompt.

  2. Select “Run as Administrator”.

  3. Type “sfc /scannow” without quotes and hit Enter.

Now check for the issue.

Method 2: Run the DISM Tool.

If the issue persists, I would have you run the DISM tool to check the system health and will try to restore the files.

  1. Click on 'Start'.

  2. Enter 'Command prompt' in the Search box.

  3. In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click 'Run as administrator'

  4. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press the Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.

Note: The tool might take 15-20 minutes to finish running, so please do not cancel it.

Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Thanks & Regards,
AS

Sadly this did nothing for me.  It never found any errors and the same problems still persists.  I'm at the end of my wits with this.

Same here.  Photos and all my accessories programs have disappeared and I can't seem to find any way to restore them.  I ran the recommended programs and it says everything's fine.

I went into settings and looked at my default programs. They were reset to Windows 10 apps. I reset the picture viewer back to Windows Picture Viewer. Reset my music back to iTunes as well. Solved this issue for me.

Thanks for your reply, I tried your suggestion, still no luck.  I have also tried right-click open with option and managed to be able to "view" photos.  But before upgrade to Win 10 I could just click on a photo, open it, edit...... There has to be something interfering here.  If anyone else has been able to fix this issue please let me know.
