Windows 10 Default Location is Completely Wrong - Not even in the right country

Windows 10 apps including Weather, Edge, Find My PC, etc. that pull a location think I am in Nova Scotia, Canada.  However, I am located in Phoenix, Arizona.

If I use a non-Microsoft product like Google Chrome or Firefox to look at Google Maps or even Bing Maps, those programs can get my precise location correct.

How can I fix this so that my Microsoft apps and my computer think I'm in the correct place?

Check your setting for "Default Location." For the Weather app, for example, see https://www.teamknowhow.com/kit-guide/computing...

Also check the the more global settings. See http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/manage-location-se...

We are volunteers willing to help you try to resolve this issue.

These should help :

Start - Settings - Privacy - Location - Default location - "Set default"

Also

Start - Settings - Time & Language - Region & language - ensure those are correct.

Please let us know the results and if you need further assistance.

Thanks.  I tried both options, but both were set correctly.  And Windows still thinks I'm in Canada.

Using Bing Maps in Edge thinks I'm currently in Canada.  Using Bing Maps in Chrome thinks I'm in Phoenix, AZ (correct).

Thanks, I tried this, but my computer and Microsoft Apps still thinks I'm in Canada.

For Bing - the hamburger menu on upper right - Settings - then "more" - set location there.

For Chrome you will need to check with its support and forums.

Hope that helps.

Have you set a "default location" or are you configured to "always detect my location"? Assuming that you're set to "always detect," what is your IP address as reported by http://whatismyipaddress.com/ ? Does your computer have a wireless network adapter and if so, is wi-fi enabled?

My location is set to always detect my location.  I can see the location icon appear in the taskbar.  I am using Wi-Fi on my computer - I am not connected to the internet via cable.  http://whatismyipaddress.com shows that I am using Cox Communications in Phoenix, AZ.

Edge (using various mapping services), Microsoft Maps, Microsoft Weather and any other Microsoft apps continue to believe I'm in Canada even if I try to pull an updated location.

Google Chrome and Firefox detect my location correctly in Arizona via both Google Maps, MapQuest and Bing.

Microsoft products seem to be misinterpreting my location.

What happens if you set a default location using your zip code?

See this article from 2 years ago. It appears that whatever the problem was, it isn't fixed: https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-te...

I don't have any personal experience with this 3rd-party app, but you might consider trying it: http://www.rlatour.com/fml/release/FixMyLocatio... (web site: http://www.rlatour.com/fml/index.html)

I ran it through VirusTotal and it came out clean.

I am having the exact same issue and the problem happened around the same time. Sometime around 8PM on Nov 20th my location changed from Mountain View, CA to Finland. I have been unable to fix this problem and have had to manually set my time zone clock back to Pacific time.

Google Chrome browser works fine for location. However, Edge browser thinks that I'm in Finland.

I think this is a bug on Microsoft's end and more investigation needs to be done to pinpoint what has changed since the Nov 20th timeframe.
