Windows 10: computer keeps tabbing out of currently used program

Hi all,

I purchased a new computer earlier this month, and have been noticing a strange pop-up window that will either alt-tab any game that I have open in fullscreen or will overlay anything else i have open for half a second and then automatically close before I can do anything or even tell what it is. It happens every half hour to a few hours, seemingly at random.
It doesn't seem to be breaking anything, but it's interfering with settings in some games (alt tabbing can mess with ME:A's video settings) and causing minor issues in games that don't automatically pause when they minimize (such as mmos) as well as various other applications.

The computer is an HP with Nvidia GeForce.

I've already shut off both the xbox and the geforce overlay in games.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Sheyshen,

To assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

  • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
  • Have you tried updating your Windows 10 computer to its latest update?
  • Have you tried to turn off the Get tips, tricks and suggestions as you use Windows  in the Notification & Actions Settings of your Windows 10 and see if you will still encounter the same issue?

If you are not able to turn off that in the Notification & Actions Settings, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Type Notifications & Actions.
  3. Deselect the option Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows.
  4. Restart your computer.

Regards.

Thanks for your feedback.

The issue started after updating to the most recent windows update, otherwise no changes were made aside from driver updates and game installs.

Everything on this computer is up to date, and the "get tips" has been shut off since the problem first started about a week back, a day or two after purchase.

As for troubleshooting steps, I've checked my task manager, even had it open when the overlay occurred. I've made sure that I have no background apps running outside of the ones that are required or I am unable to switch off. I've run a system scan that found nothing out of the ordinary, and have made no new installs outside of the games i frequent and some general office applications. All of which are up to date.

None of this seems to have helped, in fact the popup happened while typing this out.
