Windows 10 BSOD on Login to Account

After shutting down my computer after it was running slow (having difficulties with viewing a YouTube video, lags when attempting to CTRL-ALT-DEL), attempting to log back into my personal user account resulted in a BSOD with the code "System Service Exception".

Logging into the Administrator account I thankfully created still works, and I can use the computer without issue on that account. But, every time I attempt to log into my personal user account I receive a System Service Exception error code and a BSOD. I attempted to system restore to a save created on 01/06/2019, but the restore failed and I did not receive an error why. Similarly, a start-up repair yielded similar results.

I ran sfc /scannow and after it encountered corrupted files and failing to repair them, I found this in the text log it presented to me.

&

HRESULT = 0x800f0821 - CBS_E_ABORT

I've also ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and was still unable to log into my personal user account.

I have not installed any recent applications other than updating Microsoft OneDrive. I can still access the Administrator account but cannot log into my personal account due to receiving a BSOD at the login attempt. I have updated all device drivers available in my Device Manager.

Is it possible to repair my account without losing all of my applications and other data that isn't preserved with a refresh?

Hi Jan. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

It seems you've already confirmed the account is corrupted, and not the install, since the Admin account works properly.

So what I would do if you don't want to run under your Admin account as most do, is create a new Local Standard Account: http://www.howtogeek.com/226540/how-to-create-a...

Sign in, Test it runs OK, all apps work properly, move your files over, when ready you can delete the old account in the same place. You can then convert the Local Account to your MS Account if desired.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg, thank you for your reply and insight.

When attempting to create a new local account through the Administrator account, clicking on "Add someone else to this PC" in the settings menu opens up something called "lusrmgr - Local Users and Groups (Local)" which says "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel." but when attempting to do so, the tool only redirects me back to the settings menu, creating a sort of loop.

It seems as if I'd need to purchase a different version of windows to do this, is that necessary and if so, is there a way to save the hassle? I feel as if I had created an account before, seeing as this Administrator account exists outside of my own personal account.

To address the apparent older version as well as the broken system files, I'd run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool from this link choosing Download Tool Now, install the tool, open it and choose Upgrade this PC Now. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... This reinstalls WIndows while saving your files and apps in place; takes about an hour, resolves most problems.

There is no version of Windows that will not let you create a new account, unless it's an Enterprise version that has Group Policies restricting this.

I have never found a reason to not operate under the Admin account, which is what Windows creates when you install it.

1) To evaluate the BSOD please post logs for troubleshooting.

Using administrative command prompt copy and paste this whole command.

2) Make sure the default language is English so that the logs can be scanned and read.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3813-language-add-remove-change-windows-10-a.html

The command will automatically collect the computer files and place them on the desktop.

3) Then use 7zip to organize the files and one drive, drop box, or google drive to place share links into the thread for troubleshooting.

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Share-OneDrive-files-and-folders-9fcc2f7d-de0c-4cec-93b0-a82024800c07

This command will automatically collect these files:  msinfo32, mini dumps, drivers, hosts, install, uninstall, services, startup, event viewer files, etc.

4) Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste the whole command:

copy %SystemRoot%\minidump\*.dmp "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\"&dxdiag /t %Temp%\dxdiag.txt© %Temp%\dxdiag.txt "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SFdebugFiles\"&type %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts >> "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\hosts.txt"&systeminfo > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt"&driverquery /v > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\drivers.txt" &msinfo32 /nfo "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\msinfo32.nfo"&wevtutil qe System /f:text > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\eventlog.txt"® export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\uninstall.txt"® export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\installed.txt"&net start > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\services.txt"&REM wmic startup list full /format:htable >"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\startup.html"&wmic STARTUP GET Caption, Command, User >"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\startup.txt"

5) There are two files for you to find manually:

a) C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

Use file explorer > this PC > local C: drive > right upper corner search enter the above to find results.

b) dxdiag:

In the left lower corner search type:  dxdiag > When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens click on the next page button so that each tab is opened > click on save all information > save to desktop > post one drive or drop box share link into the thread

6) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
7) sfc /scannow
8) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
9) chkdsk /scan

10) net user test /add

11) findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\desktop\sfcdetails.txt

12) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

13) shutdown /r

14) When the computer reboots sign on with the new user named test

15) Evaluate the performance of the computer with the new user and report the findings into the thread

16) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings

a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery window into the thread

b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > on the performance options window > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory window into the thread

17) If the computer has Ccleaner (do not install the software if it is not already installed) > click windows tab > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread

18) Upload the desktop file from step #11 using the share link with the results of the administrative command prompt, startup and recovery system failure, virtual memory and dxdiag (use one drive ,drop box, or google drive)

19) For the memory dump post a separate share link using one drive, drop box, or google drive

Thank you once again Greg. I attempted to do a repair install like you suggested with the creation tool. I followed through the install wizard's directions but the system BSOD with a System Service Exception approximately 24-26% into installing windows. I appreciate your advice and patience with me.

question_, my system BSOD after attempting step 4 of your instructions. The error it gave was System Service Exception.

I have completed the other tasks as requested and included the file(s) and images.

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AusA39qKS9B-gkWAcPQZQFzR2bB4 - Files including .dmp and what was taken from step 4

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AusA39qKS9B-glaCCD4AcrDnd_4U image of test user

The new user, "test" functions properly and does not BSOD like my personal account.

1) Portions of the logs were missing.

2) The chkdsk displayed:

Windows has found problems and some were fixed online;
the remaining problems must be fixed offline.
Please run "chkdsk /spotfix" to fix the issues.

3) Please place the computer into safe mode and then run the administrative command prompt to collect logs > post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

4) Indicate whether there are or not BSOD while in safe mode with any of the users, especially the problematic user.
