Windows 10 boot stuck at blue screen w/ spinning dots after successful install

I installed Windows 10 successfully on my computer through the update program and everything went smoothly. After the computer was shut down, it would not reboot. It is currently stuck on a blue screen with white spinning dots. It says to please wait for a moment before that goes away and I'm left with just the dots. Any suggestions?

Try pressing ctrl+alt+del after a minute or so.  We have a couple testing machines here at work that are doing the same thing.  Pressing the magic three brings up the login screen most of the time, sometimes if it's sat for a while you have to reboot it.  Hope this is fixed soon.

I have the same problem and pressing control alt delete takes me to what seems to be the log in screen but there are only the ease of access, language and power buttons at the bottom

I have the same problem with Win 10 on Mac  - Boot Camp.  It was working fine post the upgrade until an update was being processed.  Help!

First a question for you: did you have any VPN software installed on your machine before upgrade? Like Cisco AnyConnect for example?

For your information: I had the same issue from a WIn8.1 upgrade and was able to get it working. Here is exactly what I did:

  • Boot to advanced menu:
    • On spinning wheel screen hit CTRL+ALT+DELTE
    • Hold shift and click Power button then Restart while keeping shift key pressed
  • Under boot menu select the option to revert to previous build
  • Trigger the Win10 upgrade process once more

Once the second upgrade attempt completed I was finally able to login in Win10. However the spinning wheel issue persists when booting in safe mode.

Also uninstalling the VPN software altogether before upgrade may yield better results.

I had also the same problem on my laptop.

Windows 10 were stuck on loading. I could not even shut down.

Try to do those two steps.

  • Hold shift button and click Power button
  • Restart while keeping shift button pressed.

This solved this problem for me. I hope the same for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions.  I've tried this but because it's on a Mac and via Bootcamp, it doesn't restart in boot menu.  Any suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated.

When I turn on my computer it shows the blue "spinning dots" screen for about two hours before I can log on. Ctrl-Alt-Del does the same as above... doesn't help. This has been happening every day for several days now. That is one LONG boot time! I've rolled back the updates a couple of times, but every now and again when I shut down I get the "update and shut down" option which inevitably causes the above problems again. Any ideas?

I made it to the "pseudo" login screen, but I only see two buttons: one for networks and another for the ease of access center. Anyone else run into this blocker?

This happened to me and all I did was take the battery out of my laptop.

This worked for me.
