Windows 10 Autoplay not working

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I am having problems with installation software for my camera, printer, etc. I have found that others are having the same issue: Windows 10 Autoplay is not working.

I have tried going into  Control Panel\then into Autoplay. I made sure that Use AutoPlay for all media and devices was checked. Also tried: Start, All Programs, Accessories, right-click Command Prompt , run as admin., in the command prompt typed in: net start shellhwdetection. I restarted the computer but it is still not working.

Does anyone know if there is an windows update to fix the autoplay problem? And how to do this update? I am so frustrated at this time and it is terrible that Microsoft has not addressed this issue as yet. There are so many complaining about this issue.

Thank you for any help that you might offer.

I'm not sure if my previous reply posted so I may be writing the same things again...

Troubleshooting /updating drivers is not working.

Problem is none of the "auto play" functions are working.

When "Notification" clicked, action center opens up. When you "tab" "tab to choose what happens", notification disappears then there is nothing to select. This is valied for audio CDs, inserting blank CDs, memory cards, iphones etc.

Notification settings, auto play settings is not a solution.

There is something else wrong here... As far as I can check I don't think anyone has yet an idea...

Hi,

I suggest you to copy the text below text on a notepad and save it as a .reg file and save it on your desktop location.  Make sure your run the file as "Run as administrator". After that run this file to get the Autoplay working in your computer.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=-

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 322756

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/

Also applies to Windows 10.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

This is a microsoft problem that needs to be fixed. I sent one new computer back thinking it was the computer but found out on my 2nd computer the problem is still there. There are many fixes on the internet but none have worked for me. From what I can tell an upgrade to windows caused this problem. I still have time to return my computer and buy a mac. Microsoft needs to admit this is there problem and fix it.

The second part of the registry text, the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE............................] part isn't recognized and not accepted when trying to install.  Shouldn't there be more after the dash following "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=-   ?
