Windows 10 5ghz Hotspot not working

Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a 5GHz hotspot, from my laptop.  My laptop is connected to the internet via ethernet.

So my hotspot works, I can get a 2.4GHz connection perfectly well, but the problem is, I don't have the drop-down menu when setting up to select "5GHz". Image
Sorry for the size of the photo

but as can be seen, I don't have a drop-down menu...

Now I would like to point out, I have done my research, and the most common answer is that my laptop does not have the hardware to broadcast the 5GHz bandwidth.

However, this is not what is happening in my case, because on multiple occasions my hotspot is a 5GHz hotspot, the problem is I can not make it happen, every so often it just decided to do it, but there is no correlation that I can see...

okay, that's the end,

Thanks, guys, and hope someone can help

Hi NathanHawkins2,
1) what is the version of Windows 10 running?
2) Did the 5 GHz hotspot work on your laptop previously?
3) Have you enabled both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands on your router?
4) What is the exact model of your wireless adapter?

Hi franco, thanks for the reply

1.

I am running Windows 10.0.18363

2. This is kind of confusing so ill try to keep it simple:

My 5GHz hotspot has worked before and recently aswell, but it is completely random, and I have no control over it.. ( I don't have the drop-down window to select the band)

I am trying to figure out why I can't tell it to use 5ghz

3.

yes it is enabled

4.

I'm not entirely sure if I have found the correct one.... i get this  " realtek 8822be wireless lan 802.11ac pci-e nic  "

NB. having looked at the link you suggested, I don't have the drop down menu in the first picture, it just isn't there.

Thank you for the response, and hope this helps :)

To know the full version of your operating system, type winver in the search box, then post the screenshot.
Access the router> wireless settings, temporarily disable the 2.4 GHz band, check if you can activate the mobile hotspot.

Hi, thanks for posting your question to the community! My name is David an independent advisor and I am here to help you.

Please tell me the manufacturer and model of your laptop, to know the characteristics of your wireless network card.

You can connect to 5 GHz networks, however, your router could send signal in both bands. 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz.

I will indicate some possible solutions for your configuration.

1- Go to Start> Settings> Network and Internet> Mobile access point.
2-On the left side, look for Change adapter options. You must select your wireless card, right click, select Advanced> Preferred Band> Value. here select, Prefer 5 Ghz Band, click OK.
3- Try to create an access point again.

If you have an Intel wireless network card, this answer could help, you must see the replied of July 4th:

Hi, so my laptop is an Asus FX505DU

here's what i get when I try your possible fixes :)

I assume that this is my wireless card >>Image

so from there, I go to properties, then configure, then advanced.

but the strange thing is, there isn't a preferred band option.  I also noticed that there are significantly fewer options that there are in all of the videos I've watched, so I'm not sure what is happening.Image

thank you for the help

Also, im not sure why changing the wifi band from 2.4 to 5 would help, because my laptop is using a wired connection to the internet.

I'm using ethernet.

Hi NathanHawkins2,

the type of internet, ethernet, wi-fo or other means of access has nothing to do with the Mobile Hotspot function. The mobile hotspot is managed by the driver of the wi-fi adapter, the presence or absence of the 5 GHz band in the mobile hotspot settings depends only on the driver that may not be updated or corrupt.

Go to the advanced settings of the wi-fi adapter, click on Wireless Mode, expand the drop-down menu. What is the current setting? Post the screenshot

Hi NathanHawkins2,
yes, the setting is correct. However, try setting 802.11a / n / ac mode. If the problem persists, reset it to Auto.
Did you do the test I suggested to you? With your PC, can you regularly connect to the internet via Wi-Fi using the 5 GHz band?
