Window 7 Freezes During "Windows Startup" Screen

Currently, I'm having difficulties in turning on my computer due to Windows 7 freezing during the "Windows Startup" screen, in which, the logo's animation will cease and the boot will not continue.

In order to bypass this issue, I will normally have to restart my computer several times from this state. When I use the option of using the system repair in order to fix the problem, it appears to do so, but only temporarily. After a few days it reverts to being difficult again.

I'm at a loss as to what could be causing the issue. The only other notes I can give regarding strange PC performance is that Word 2000 crashes during exiting and would not uninstall properly off of my computer. I know now that it is not compatible with Windows 7, unfortunately, and am curious if its strange behavior is related t the startup issue? (A stretch perhaps? But it's all I can think of).

Other possible useful information:

  • Computer: Built not bought -- specifications: 64-bit, AMD Phenom IIx4, 8 GB of RAM
  • Programs/Hardware that have been also troublesome recently: Word 2000 (crashes upon exit), Wacom tablet (driver issue, was uninstalled and not reinstalled),  MovieMagic 2000 (it will not work if I make a second account on the computer and now has randomly deactivated itself)
  • If any other information is required, I will be glad to assist!

Hi,

Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you bootup. Another method is Start - type in
Search box -> MSCONFIG find at top - Right Click on it - RUN AS ADMIN. Boot tab
- check Safe Boot (Network) APPLY / OK. Remember to change it back if needed.

Try a System Restore back to before this happened : (You could run System Restore
in regular Windows as well however it sometimes works better from Safe Mode -
repeatedly tap F8 as you boot.)

You can try some of these in Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot.

If you do not have a Windows 7 disk you can borrow a friends as they are not copy
protected. Your System maker will also sell the physical DVD cheap since you already
own Windows. Also you can make a repair disk on another computer.

Try Startup Repair - (If at ANY point you gain some but not full access to Windows come
back and try Startup Repair again.)
