Win10 - Videos play 10x fast forward via HDMI to LG TV

Macbook Air with Win 10 is connected via HDMI to  LG 55UH605W  TV.

When TV goes to sleep and then switched ON, windows graphics driver screw video playing - plays like 10x or 20x fast forward. Youtube or local files, doesn't matter.

[unplug HDMI cable and video plays normally in macbook screen]

Windows restart helps.

Please fix.

Hi Samuel,

We'd like to get additional details about the issue you're experiencing right now with Windows 10 on your MacBook Air, kindly verify the following:

  • Have you recently installed the latest driver for your graphics card from the Apple website?
  • Have you tried connecting a different TV? Same issue?
  • What about using a different HDMI cable?

We look forward to your response.

Hi Joanna

* driver is from Nov 16, 2017 provided by Windows Update. If I put there different driver, won't it be updated by another Microsoft update?

* I like this TV and also HDMI cable is the one of highest quality

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HHLY2ZM/B/belkin-4k-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-cable-2-m-65-ft?fnode=8b&fs=fh%3D4595%252B3058

If Microsoft gets more reports like this, e.g.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware-winpc/win10-hdmi-adapter-video-speed-too-fast-sound-high/e1e5a96a-d629-4bc0-8fd8-0dd9f0e1e07d

perhaps you would like to diagnose the problem by yourself.

I'm happy user of Windows and if Microsoft doesn't have money or people to diagnose the problem, sure I understand it :)

-- Not necessarily. Windows Update will install what it think will be the best compatible driver for your device to work with Windows 10. However, your device manufacturer can release an updated driver for your device at any time if they need to.

When using a laptop, it’s better to download the latest drivers from the laptop manufacturer instead.

You can update your video driver using the Device Manager. Simply right-click the drive that you want to update and select ‘Update driver’.

If the above didn't help, you may also run the dedicated Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.

1. Go to Settings > Update > Troubleshoot.

2. Under ‘Find and fix other problems’, select the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter > run the tool.

If all fails, you may want to check with the manufacturer of your TV, to verify if any settings need to be adjusted.

Let us know how it turned out.

Same thing but with Samsung TV. It played perfectly yesterday, but today it jumps without a sound

I've had this problem few months before but it solved itself

in my case problem persists, it just changed wrongdoing after last Windows update. Now it does play in correct speed, but Windows cannot play sound in TV via HDMI. Either sound output option does not even show up or it does, but it plays silence.

I have to restart Windows 10 every time I get back from the garden office.

I have same partial solution:

After connecting Samsung TV via HDMI, the playback device for sound on Mac Book changes to Samsung TV. I changed it back to Mac book speaker and video started playing on a normal speed. But the sound goes through Mac Book speakers. I connected JBL speakers and it works for me.

good workaround for you... I am minimalist, don't want another appliance.

BTW, if you have problem with video fast forward only, try this. When you gonna take MacBook off, first open the deck so the MacBook display gets activated. Only after that unplug HDMI and then switch off TV. It seems to be working for me, apart from the sound problem.

actual fastest workaround when video playback got screwed or HDMI sound device disappeared:

go to sleep from Windows Start menu. Wake up from keyboard/mouse.
