Win 11 Home Net View Error 6118

Practicing network stuff and such.

Setup: Desktop running Win 11 Home 24H2; wired in

Laptop: Running Latest edt of Win 10 Home; wi-fi connection

Set them both up to be in the same workgroup. Through File Explorer I can see all the different computers. I can access and open the folders and files I set to be shared and can't access the ones I set to be not shared. For both the desktop and laptop that functionality is working correctly.

On the Win 10 laptop, when in the Command Prompt, typing in Net View yields the expected results, a list of both machines.

On the Win 11 desktop, I get the "System error 6118 has occurred".

I have gone through various threads to make sure all the settings are correct and such (which I'm pretty sure the fact that I can access everything through Explorer would indicate they are), and even performed a clean boot, but still get the same results.

As an interesting side note (not sure how important it is, but seems odd), in my Network list for the Win 11 desktop (on the side tree of Explorer and in the Network window) sometimes the local desktop lists itself and other times it doesn't.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hello AnthonyCiotti III, welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your feedback, it was a pleasure to assist you with this issue!

It is true that many users have reported errors with this command after upgrading to Win11.

This is due to the fact that HTTP is deprecated in Win11.

This is the reason why the command gives such an error.

However, all these functions are normal and can be used normally.

We look forward to hearing from you again!

It partially works on some WIndows-10 and Windows-11 machines in our network and not others.

Net View

net view /all fails with 6118 error and file/network explorer only shows a subset of the SMB network although we can manually map shares.

We need to connect to non-MS O/S's which are seen by some of the Windows 10/11 machines but not others.

None of the Windows Server/10/11 show the complete network although all of the nodes can be pinged.

Many of our manufacturing equipment have PC's/processors running older versions of WIndows. Due to the specialized hardware and software, they can not be upgraded.

MICROSOFT broke this, THEY NEED TO FIX IT.
