Will the upgrade from Windows 10 in S Mode to Windows 11 in S Mode be available via Windows Update?

Good morning - I have a HP Laptop bought in 2021, which runs Windows 10 in S Mode.

When it first asked me if I wished to upgrade to Windows 11, I decided to stick with Windows 10 and clicked the "Stay on Windows 10 for now" option.

Having just read that support will end in October, I am concerned as to whether the option to upgrade via Windows Update will be made available again - it is not currently showing on Windows Update.

I downloaded the PC Health Check, but got an error message that "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".

I downloaded the Update Assistant, but it requires me to switch out of S Mode, which I would prefer not to do unless absolutely necessary.

Can anyone please advise if upgrade via Windows Update will be available in October at end of life support so that I can switch to Windows 11 in S Mode.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello! I'm Manoel Barros!

The update is available, but since you declined the update, Windows may have blocked it in the registry.

S Mode blocks changes to the registry and other advanced user tools, so you won't be able to perform advanced workarounds in S Mode. In this case, you must switch out of S Mode to upgrade to Windows 11.

IMPORTANT: If you have Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions in S mode, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode to upgrade to Windows 11.
