Wi-Fi Adapter for PC running at 25Mbps, Slow

Desktop computer, 8Gb, 500Gb M.2, Windows 10, USB 2.0 / 3.0 ports

Purchased a name brand wi-fi adapter for my desktop computer (3 years old). Ethernet not available in this office.

Running fast.com and speedtest by Ookla. Both give similar download/upload speeds of 25 down 15 up.

I have the USB adapter plugged into blue 3.0 port. I should be getting max wi-fi speed from the router which is around 300Mbps. My laptop gets this in the same room.

Any changes I need to make to the desktop Windows environment?

Thanks!

Hello. The issue is the USB adapter. These adapters are "OK" but is designed for a temporary fix untill you replace the PCIE eathernet card. I would recommend doing a Bridged network Or a USB tether.

They still sell PCIE WI-FI cards if that is an option for you to do. The 3 and 4 antenna PCIE cards are faster then 300Mbs.

Answer: PCIE WI-FI card 3 antenna. Or 4 antenna. I use to own a PCIE TP-link 3 antenna in my desktop way way back in 2004 and it was great and I think it was still over 300Mbs on the "n" 2.5GHz network band.

Thank you.

My current USB TP-Link Wi-Fi adapter has 2 antenna's and a cord to get it higher than the desk. I'm 10' away from a AP. The TP-Link is middle of the line in price $50 so i would expect better performance. The box says 300-400Mbps at AC connectivity.

I was looking to see if I can tell if I'm connected at 2.5 or 5.0. The router is doing a update.

Ethernet is not a option in this remote office setting.

I will look into tethering.

Thanks again and any information is always grateful!
