Why the profile picture on my Microsoft Start/MSN community profile page is not updating? I don't see an option to change it inside the community, I signed up with a Microsoft Account.

Hello Microsoft Community!

I want to personalize my community account at Microsoft Start/MSN by uploading a public profile picture. However, when I uploaded some profile picture I've found to my Microsoft Account, it fails to update the newly uploaded picture icon on the mentioned sites. I have seen in the comment section of some articles that are at least some that successfully managed to upload an actual profile picture compared to the hundreds of default A-Z icons. There's a few I found (most areas censored to protect their privacy):


Not sure if takes a while to show up since I recently uploaded my profile picture from my Microsoft Account about maybe 4 or 5 hours ago when I was writing this question. This is how looks like on my Microsoft Start/MSN community profile page (also censored parts of my content and information for privacy, plus inserted some annotations):

As I highlighted in the image above, clicking on "Edit community profile" takes me to my Microsoft Account settings page. I don't really see other option or alternative to change my profile picture other than this (I looked through all other settings and preferences to no avail):

All of modifications and changes that I made was completely done using internet browsers on desktop and mobile alike on Edge.

Edit #1: Added "I signed up with a Microsoft Account." into the title for clarity and to be more specific and eliminated some words to accommodate the 200-character title limit.

May I ask whether you can see your uploaded photos in Microsoft Start/MSN Community?

After testing, due to you are logged in with a Microsoft account on Microsoft Start / MSN, you can only change your profile photo through the Microsoft account settings page. After uploading, just refresh the Microsoft Start / MSN page to see your profile picture.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I still cannot see my uploaded profile picture on my Microsoft Start/MSN profile page. Also tried reuploading the image from my Microsoft Account (there's a GIF I added to show that didn't work when I refreshed the page on my profile page, also censored personal information and content for privacy like the other images) and waiting for at least 24 hours to see if it appears all of a sudden... in the end, nothing happens to my Microsoft Start/MSN profile picture, still keeps showing the default "AN" icon. I forgot to mention that I signed up using my Microsoft Account only and no other alternate ways of doing the same process (like when signing up with Google or Facebook, for example).

It may be a problem with the pictures you uploaded. You can log out and log in to your account again and upload other pictures to see if they can be synchronized, or modify the size and format of the pictures.

Im assuming Microsoft account is either not supported on profile syncing or the sizing limit is different.

Maybe those that signed up with facebook or google were the smart ones.

This is my recent update regarding this situation:

Before October 2022 entered, I decided to reupload using a different picture on my Microsoft Account.

The image I uploaded was maybe around approx. 353 (W) x 353 (H) resolution, .JPG format with a size of 28.12 KB. I've also seen pictures with PNG format as well.

I've waited for a few weeks to check if I can manage to see my profile picture. Previously I couldn't see it, until today. All of a sudden, I'm starting to see more people with an actual profile picture. I just thought: Why I'm starting to see other's profile pictures more often?

I decided to check mine, and turns out that, indeed, I can now see my profile picture! I'm not sure what lead to this change, if this was a bug of some sort or something else. Either way, I'm glad to finally see my own picture on MSN/Microsoft Start!
