Why is my SSD size gradually decreasing even though I'm not storing anything on it? P.s:- I had set restore point quite a time ago but never faced anything like this.

It's a 512 gb SSD which has always shown 454gb since day one and I'm losing on an average about 1 gb per day. The disk cleanup shows no junk that needs to be deleted and I was using hibernation mode for a while but then I disabled it and deleted the hiberfiles using the command prompt. Can anyone pls tell me what's happening. Or is it just the SSD itself that needs to be replaced?

Hello there! I am Charity, I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you today!

My apologies about that. Some files, like the pagefile, system restore points, and the System Volume Information folder, are hidden and not easily detected by standard disk cleanup tools. These can accumulate over time and consume significant space. System Restore, in particular, can create large backup files, and even if you've not noticed this before, it could be progressively taking up space now.

When Windows updates are downloaded and installed, they often leave behind temporary files, backup files, and system restore points. These files are meant to help you revert to a previous state if something goes wrong during the update. However, they can take up significant space on your SSD. Even after the update is installed, some of these files might remain unless manually cleaned up.

If the disk cleanup doesn't find the residue files, I would suggest using a third party cleaning app like CCleaner. If you do happen to use CCleaner, please be very mindful of it's ads and other offerings. I would suggest using the app to clean up once, then uninstalling the app after.

I've tried ccCleaner as you said but it made no difference. On the contrary, after the cleanup, I lost more space. I've tried to inspect the issue but I'm unable to understand what's happening. One thing I forgot to mention is that my laptop auto updates the MyDell application which I've been thinking to disable but again I've read somewhere that although you can uninstall the MyDell app but it is not recommended. Can you please help me with this and also I'm attaching the screenshots of my ssd so that you can get a rough idea of what's happening. My ssd went from 362gb to 336gb in just a week without me storing anything on it! Could you please look into it and let me know what's happening?ImageImage

Thank you for the information. The MyDell application, which you mentioned is set to auto-update, could be downloading large updates or accumulating data that isn’t being properly cleaned up. While this app provides diagnostics and system health features, it could also be contributing to the problem by using significant space for logs, diagnostics data, or updates. Disabling or uninstalling it might help in diagnosing the issue, but it's generally recommended to keep such apps if you're not comfortable managing the system without them.

I would suggest to temporarily disable the MyDell app and see if the space issue persists. If it stops, then the app might be the culprit.

Please let me know if you're still decreasing space after disabling the app.
