Why is an online Microsoft account stuck logged in on my PC?

I run windows 10, I like to sign in with local accounts. My administrator account and my sons standard user account. This works well as I don't want my 9 year old having admin rights and he uses his own account. Recently I purchased Minecraft for him and had to login to his Microsoft account online to activate it.

I then had to download the Xbox app to download and install it - This was mistakenly done while logged into my windows 10 profile. I've had to log his Microsoft account out of the Xbox app, uninstalled the app on my profile and then installed the Xbox app on his standard user local windows profile. Logged him in on there and he's fine now.

On my profile I'm stuck with my sons online windows account logged in under my local user profile??? It also states that he's an administrator!!!! There's no option to sign out from his account, I sign locally. Why can't I remove the account?

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

It seems like you're having an issue with a Microsoft account being stuck on your Windows 10 profile. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:

  1. Check Linked Accounts: Go to 'Settings' > 'Accounts' > 'Email & accounts'. Under the 'Accounts used by other apps' section, you should see your son's Microsoft account. Click on it and then click 'Remove' to unlink the account from your profile.

  2. Manage Your Account: If the above step doesn't work, go to 'Settings' > 'Accounts' > 'Your Info'. If you see your son's account here, click on 'Manage my Microsoft account'. This will take you to a web page where you can sign out.

  3. Change Account Type: If your son's account is showing as an administrator, you can change it back to a standard account. Go to 'Settings' > 'Accounts' > 'Family & other users'. Under 'Your family', click on your son's account and then click 'Change account type'. In the new window, select 'Standard User' and click 'OK'.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
