Why is 3/4 of my screen black on 144Hz.

Hello everyone. Since I installed Windows 11, I have the problem you see in the image with my screen. Its only the display screen, as if i want to open an app that is behind the black part, i can, as it still works fine. I think i narrow it down to a drivers problem, but i am not sure, because when i uninstall the driver and let the system install it again, the problem is not immediately solved, but it takes some minutes. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. The problem comes back the next day when i open the laptop. To mention, when i sleep i unplug it. Also the problem is only when i have the 144Hz activated, when i switch to 60 it's not a black screen, but i can see the screen not loving it in some backgrounds.

Based on your description, I understand that your screen doesn't black out when set to 60hz, but it blacks out 3/4 of the way when set at 144hz, and I understand very well how you feel!

But from your description mentioning that you can open apps on the black part, it means that the system should be problematic or the apps will not be able to open.

Thank you very much for the photos, as far as the pictures you provided, there is a suspected line down the middle of the black screen and the normal screen. I will give you some solutions based on this and hopefully it will solve your problem successfully!

Option 1: You as well try to uninstall the driver and let the system install it automatically, it will take a few minutes to wait for the problem to be solved.

Please allow me to explain to you that the driver you uninstalled and installed in Device Manager is a generic driver provided by Windows, and may not display the high refresh screen properly due to poor compatibility or an old driver.

I suggest you download the driver for the relevant device from NVIDIA website and install it to improve the driver compatibility.

Option 2: You can try to safely boot your computer and set it to 144hz to see if the problem still exists.

For safe boot you can refer to: Windows startup settings - Microsoft Support.

Because safe boot can effectively troubleshoot third-party software, drivers and other conflicts that cause the problem, if the problem disappears after you safe boot, you can try to uninstall some other drivers with recently installed, updated and frequently used third-party software.

Option 3: Check the monitor related settings in the NVIDIA control panel to see if they are successful.

Right-click on desktop -> select "NVIDIA Control Panel" -> check the monitor related settings and change them according to your needs

Because I found that the settings in the control panel can override the settings in the system, which eventually leads to similar issues.

Option 4: You can try to disable the integrated graphics and just use a discrete graphics card to output the screen and see if the problem still exists.

To disable the integrated graphics card, you need to enter the BIOS to perform the relevant operations, you can through the official website of the notebook brand to check the BIOS and disable the integrated graphics card document or video, to avoid operating errors and other problems.

Please note: Some notebooks may not boot up after disabling the integrated graphics, or may have a black screen after booting. In this case, you just need to enter the BIOS to re-enable the integrated graphics card.
