Why can't my son sign in to Microsoft Family Features (single-use codes are supposedly incorrect)?

When my son tries to log in to his Microsoft account on his computer, the Microsoft Family Features pop-up window appears and asks him to sign-in to use family features. On the next screen, "Making sure it's you", he provides his PIN. The next screen reports, "Because you're accessing sensitive info, we'll send a code to **e-mail address** to verify your identity." He clicks "Send code", checks his e-mail, receives a message with the title "Your single-use code", finds the 6-digit code, enters it on the Family Features pop-up window, and the system responds with "That code didn't work. Check the code and try again." We have had the same issue for weeks.

I can access his account via web browser and validate access through e-mails sent through GitHub or under the title "Microsoft account security code", but all messages received with the subject "Your single-use code" provide codes that do not work.

A similar problem appears on his Xbox, as it asks for a code from his e-mail, but the system says that the received code didn't work.

Can you please help me?

Hi Alex Davis.

Thank you for reaching out here in the Microsoft Community.

In your description, your child is unable to log in to the Family Safety feature via a one-time code.

I note that you've tried not only in Family Safety, but also in your browser to access your GitHub and Microsoft accounts, and I appreciate the frustration and frustration that the current inability to authenticate with a one-time code is causing you and your child.

Since in your attempts, the problem is not only with family safety but also with other areas such as Microsoft account, Xbox, then the issue is most likely coming from the security verification of your son's Microsoft account.

You can refer to the steps below and contact our online support staff at Manage Account Security, who will be able to provide you with more targeted assistance in the area of security codes not working.

Please click on the link below and sign in to your Microsoft account at the top right, you can try this separately using your Microsoft account, or your son's Microsoft account separately.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus

1 Click on this Windows icon

2 Click on “Get Family Support” on the left hand side.

3 Type “account” in the search box and click on “Get Help” at the bottom.

4 Then click on “Contact Support” at the bottom of the screen.

5 Select “Windows” for Products and Services, select “Manage Account Security” for the category, and click the Confirm button.

6 Then choose to chat with a support agent in a web browser

Fill in your email address and a staff member will contact you.

If you see that the current chat is not available, please try again at a time that meets the requirements.

In addition, the family safety feature is a feature that is part of Microsoft 365, so if you are experiencing any other issues regarding family safety, you can go back to the previous link and select the Microsoft 365 icon

Then again, select Get Family Version Support and then type Family Safety in the search box, and the subsequent steps are basically the same as what was mentioned earlier.

This can be done by contacting the online support staff for the family safety feature. They will be able to provide you with more targeted help in this area.

It would be an honor to provide you with some advice and I hope my efforts will make things a little easier for you.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Best regards,

Zev - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

Zev,

Thank you for your reply. Although this is obviously not your fault, your suggestion unfortunately takes me full circle - I started with contacting chat support (for the second time), and when the second staff member was unable to help, he directed me to post my issue on this site... So I guess I'll go back to chat support and see if a third attempt at chat with a staff member will produce any better results...

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Chad.

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that you have contacted the online support staff. But they directed you to the community.

I do understand what you are going through and apologize for that.

I hope I can clarify for you that our community support team does not have access to check the status of your Microsoft account (or your son's Microsoft account), nor can we provide or send you any codes.

We are here, and can only offer you the small possibility that this could be a network fluctuation that is causing the code you received to not pass validation. If you wish to determine this, then please try using a different network, such as an internet connection, or Wi-Fi, or a cellular hotspot, and so on.

Also, Family Safety is a feature in Microsoft 365, which is not supported by the Windows board.

You can try contacting Microsoft 365's online support staff, or through the link below, posted separately in the Microsoft 365 boards.
