why can't i run games unless plugged in?

a couple of weeks ago I accidentally installed a virus on my computer but it was removed. but after that my computer had 2 sudden shutdowns due to high temprature. After that, it seems that any game i try to run can't even use low settings without the FPS going below 20. but if I plug it in, it runs fine even on high settings. This happened ever since the virus removal. I have tried changing graphic, power, and even cpu settings for NVIDIA, AMD, and armour crate but it seems to continue. could this be the result of the virus removal or is it something else? mind you again that I have tried to change the power settings to best performance and even turbo on the power plan. Please help.

Hi Ambrosius Keiola.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

You have noticed after removing the virus that the frame rate is very low when you play big games using the battery. In fact, using battery to play big games is a dangerous behavior itself. And it is true that performance issues can occur when using the battery.

Because the battery emits a lot of heat when it's working, it can lead to a significant buildup of heat in the rest of the hardware inside the laptop, which can lead to the overheating you mentioned in your question, which is likely to lead to hardware damage. And because of the lack of battery voltage, a lot of hardware can't run at a good performance, which leads to the inability to get smooth FPS even if you lower the game graphics.

As stated above, the problem you describe is a normal situation and many laptops on the market today really can't run games smoothly while on battery. This is an issue created by two hardware limitations, heat and voltage, and has little to do with viruses.
