Windows Live Movie Maker was created around 2009 to be the successor to Windows Movie Maker "Classic" which was included up through Windows Vista. It was part of a separate installation called "Windows Live Essentials". The bundle of programs was updated
in 2010 and 2011. The last update was in 2012 when Microsoft dropped the "Live" branding from the names.
As of January 2017, the Windows Essentials 2012 bundle has been retired and is not available for download from Microsoft servers.
