where is the Recent Places folder in file explorer and save?

Just upgraded to windows 10 and have discovered that recent places is missing from file explorer and the save dialog box. There is no way in the world that MS would remove this functionality, really, is there? I mean, really? what would possibly be the motivation to do such a thing?

So after perusing the google-dom and coming up with a few fixes from a year ago that seem not to be real fixes, I am hoping that there is actually a decent repair to this MAJOR issue. I will roll back windows 10 if it can't be fixed--it is just that irritating and unproductive to have lost this most excellent functionality.

I absolutely cannot believe that this was removed. does anyone at MS actually use this stuff? whoever made this decision should get the old pink slip (and I am speaking as spouse of a long-time MS employee).

So please, as a terminal end user, tell me how to get this done, please...

Hi Aman,

Recent Places is removed on Windows 10 by default, for the mostly used files, there would be list available under Quick Access.

Thank you.

Hey, hate to sound snarky, but I am feeling pretty snarky right now...

I don't want the mostly used files--the user can get access to recent files lists easily within any of the applications (word, adobe reader, excel, etc). And of course, there is a list of recent files associated with each application you have pinned to the start menu. What I want is the recent folders. I do loads of work for 5 or more different projects at once. I have files sent to me that I need to save, I have new documents and modified versions that I need to save. My file structure might be 8 or more folders deep, and I DO NOT WANT TO CLICK THROUGH 5+ FOLDERS EVERY TIME I WANT TO OPEN OR SAVE A DOCUMENT.

So you've had a year of negative feedback detailing the loss to ease of use and productivity and you haven't fixed this yet? Wow--

We are a Microsoft shop--my husband and son worked for MS for many years. I love MS and am a staunch supporter, but really, you guys are out of touch with your users, to a serious degree, if you don't understand the utility of this lost feature.

This one is a deal breaker for me for win10.

Hello Aman -

First - I completely agree with you that this is a terrible mistake that Microsoft made. I also make frequent use of this feature, and Microsoft needs to put it back ASAP.

That said, if you need the feature right away, there is a workaround that truly does work. I have done this on more than one Windows 10 install and it works each time.

Read this thread carefully:

http://www.tenforums.com/general-support/19353-file-explorer-quick-access-has-recent-folders-pinned-but-vanishes.html

And then once you understand it, follow the steps to:

1. Reinstate "Recent Folders" in your general Explorer windows; then

2. Reinstate "Recent Folders" permanently in your Save As... dialogue boxes.

This should do it as a temporary fix.

Love you guys. Same thing for me. I am wondering if they use computer at Microsoft. Frankly I am confused that the whole user community didn't go into an uproar immediately. Maybe there is a faster way to work? Show me.

You question is still 100% on target.
