Hello Bruce,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue.

I also appreciate this fact that you want to upgrade to Windows 10.

I would suggest you to run "McAfee Consumer Product Removal" tool to uninstall "McAfee Family Protection" and then try to upgrade to Windows 10.

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in response.

If the McAfee removal tool does not help, then you will have to get in touch with their support for the removal of the product.

If you've experienced this message or the 'freezing' at 99% you can join my club.  I started trying to upgrade 3 days before the cutoff.  I have 4 attemps on my download history where the upgrades were unsuccessful.  Tried calling Microsoft but no help there.  Sorry but I didn't have time to sit at this computer for 12+ hours at a time to see if everything was going as it should.  I upgraded a laptop with no problems at all.  I can prove my attempts with my download history but lady at Microsoft just kept telling me that the free period has ended.  Oh well......maybe if enough people will complain they will do something about this.

Microsoft understands that some people might have had trouble installing in the final days.  Contact Microsoft, explain your problem upgrading to Windows 10.  Microsoft support agents may be able to help complete the upgrade you started before the deadline. The lady you spoke to was not well informed. MS SHOULD assist you.
