When I try to verify my account on settings or microsoft store or xbox app on my pc it says "You'll need internet for this"

Yes, I am connected to the internet. Before this error it would give me a code to sign in with instead but every time I put in the code from my email it said that the code didn't work. Some things to note are that my microsoft account was hacked and everything was gone so I made a new email using the same email. Another thing is that I have had this problem since I changed my motherboard. This made it need a new windows product key so I got one and activated it but then I have needed to verify my account in settings. This also prevents me from signing in on the minecraft launcher. Any solutions?

Hello Harrison Chard

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

The issues you're experiencing—verification errors, failed codes, and activation problems—are likely due to account conflicts (from the hack/recreation) and system changes (new motherboard). Here's a structured solution:

Step 1: Resolve Account Conflicts

  1. Confirm Account Status

    • Ensure you’re using the new account (created after the hack). If the old account was compromised but not properly closed, it may still conflict.

    • Visit Microsoft Account Recovery to verify the new account is active and secure.

    • Check if the hacked account was properly closed or recovered. If not, use Microsoft’s Account Help to report the compromise.

  2. Clear Credentials on Your PC

    • Go to Control Panel > Credential Manager and remove any saved Microsoft credentials under Windows Credentials.

    • Sign out of all Microsoft accounts in Settings > Accounts > Email & Accounts.

Step 2: Fix Connectivity & Verification Issues

  1. Check Internet Connection

    • Temporarily disable VPNs, proxies, or custom DNS (e.g., 1.1.1.1). Use default settings.

    • Test with a mobile hotspot to rule out ISP issues.

  2. Reset Network Stack

    • Open Command Prompt as Admin and run:

      ipconfig /release

      ipconfig /renew

      ipconfig /flushdns

      ipconfig /registerdns

      netsh int ip reset

      netsh winsock reset

      netsh winhttp reset proxy

Restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

  3. Check Firewall/Antivirus

    • Temporarily disable third-party firewalls/antivirus. Ensure Microsoft services aren’t blocked.

  4. Sync Time & Region

    • Go to Settings > Time & Language and ensure:

      • Date/time are correct.

      • Region matches your actual location.

Step 3: Repair System Components

  1. Reset Microsoft Store & Apps

    • Open PowerShell as Admin and run:

      Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  2. Use the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter (Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot).

  3. Run System File Checks

    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.

    • Run the following commands one by one:
      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    • Run sfc /scannow and wait for the process to complete. Check if there are any detected errors. Restart afterward.

Step 4: Re-link Windows License & Account

  1. Re-activate Windows

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and troubleshoot activation issues.

    • If prompted, enter your new product key again.

  2. Link Account to Windows

    • Sign in to the Microsoft account in Settings > Accounts > Your Info. If the error persists, create a new local user account (Settings > Accounts > Family & other users) and sign in there.

Step 5: Last Resorts

  1. New User Profile

    • Create a new user profile (Settings > Accounts > Family & other users) to rule out profile corruption.

  2. Reset Windows

    • Use Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC (keep files.

Minecraft Launcher Fix

Once your account verification is resolved:

  • Uninstall/reinstall the Minecraft Launcher.

  • Sign in with the new Microsoft account (ensure no old credentials are cached).

Let me know if you need further clarification!
