What is the average wait time of Windows 10 upgrade arrival?

About 6 weeks ago, my two best friends and I synced up our Windows 10 reservation (I lagged behind a day or two) and they received their upgrade instantly. One has Windows 8.1, the other has Windows 7, and I have Windows 7.

I decided to wait it out before bugging MS, but I'm worried because I initially had issues reserving my copy. I didn't see the "Get Windows 10 App" when it first came out because my computer suppressed/failed a lot of key Windows Updates but eventually I managed to fix it with a combination of Microsoft Fix-it for Windows Updates, malware removal tools, and cleaning out the "junk" from my computer.

I still see the "Get Windows 10" app in my toolbar, and when I click on it it just says "Ok, notify me when ready" and it's been like that for almost two months now. I wonder if anyone else has the same issue and it's normal that my upgrade is taking so long, or if I should go be worried that my computer is still repressing updates and to contact MS to see what's up. The Windows 10 FAQ is very vague and didn't give a good estimate of time ("a few days to a few weeks" doesn't help my case).

Thanks for your time! I'll be willing to cooperate with whoever wants to help me.

Edit:: It's not so much about the upgrade itself, it's the "why hasn't my upgrade come yet" that I'm more concerned about.

You can download Windows directly without waiting by using the media creation tool as long as you meet the system requirements for upgrading the system & having a genuine windows.

"Due to high demand for Windows 10 globally, few of us may experience a temporary delay in download activation. We request you to wait and Windows 10 should download automatically without any issue on your machine." says Microsoft.

Personally I've got my Windows 10 at the time I reserved,

Even if the Upgrade at Windows Update didn't arrive, You can force Microsoft to cut the queue for you.To do that :

  • 1. Go to “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download”  and delete everything inside that folder, (Don't delete the entire folder but delete it's components
  • Go to Windows update into control panel and leave it opened.
  • Press Windows + X, Run Command Prompt as admin
  • In the command prompt type: wuauclt.exe /updatenow and press enter
  • Now Windows Should be downloading the software via Windows Update

*Note, You don't have to worry if the update didn't arrive for you, basically the servers are overloaded & you've been put onto their waiting list. Downloading Windows 10 via the steps above or via Windows Media Creation is equivalent to Just wait and let Microsoft download from Windows update when they want you to. It won't get you your windows inactivated or make you lose your files, it's completely legit.

I do understand the question about the average arrival time or the maximum amount of time you should wait for windows to download, but I don't get why you'd worry or wait for windows 10 to download automatically when you can manually do it.

Thank you for the response!

I'm currently at school and this laptop is my lifeline at the moment. I'm a little tech savvy, but I'm not confident that I'll be able to manually update to Windows 10 on my own without issues popping up that I can solve on my own. If I do not receive the upgrade automatically by Halloween (when I go home), then I'll have my father help me manually upgrade, per your suggestion.

Thank you.   This worked without a hitch.  Did an upgrade, no product key was required.  No issues at all.
