Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

Generally, Windows 11 should be able to support most external DVD burners, as long as they are compatible with the USB connection on your Surface Pro 6. However, it's possible that the specific driver or software for your external drive may not be compatible with Windows 11.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check if your external drive is recognized by your Surface Pro 6 when you connect it. You can do this by going to "Device Manager" and looking for the external drive under "DVD/CD-ROM drives". If the drive is not recognized, try connecting it to a different USB port or restarting your Surface Pro 6.

If your external drive is recognized but you're still having trouble burning a DVD, try using different burning software. Windows 11 has a built-in burning feature called "Windows Disc Image Burner", but you can also try using third-party software like Nero or ImgBurn.

Make sure you have the latest driver for your external drive installed. You can check the manufacturer's website for the latest driver and installation instructions.

If none of the above steps work, try connecting your external drive to a different computer running Windows 11 to see if the issue is with the drive itself.

Overall, it's important to ensure that your external DVD burner is compatible with Windows 11 and that you have the latest driver and burning software installed to avoid any issues.

If the DVD player is not compatible with Windows 11, is there a fix for it?

There used to be a compatible tab when right clicked, but that has gone, is there a fix for this also?

I have a new Windows 11 laptop. I have bought two external CD/DVD writers. One was mid range in price, the other three times the cost. Both of these units worked when first plugged in, but after that both failed to be recognized by the Windows 11 after they had been used twice. I managed to burn eight data DVD's of data from another external drive. The writer and external drive were in seperate USB ports -they were not linked via a hub. The DVD writers were not even recognized when I put the DVD's I had burned the previous night into the tray.

I spent much time looking for solutions - but TBH, when I have videos showing me how to change the registry to fix this I know this is not the way to go (other solutions such as Check your cable etc were a little too rudementory). Yes, I wento tdevice manager, checked the drivers, everything was up to date - anything beyond that really is a no no these days when I am supposed to be buyinga 'consumer' product - plug adn play.

Just why does this happen? Doesn't anyone at MS check anything? I remember compatibility problems back to the early 90's - and with Vista - they really should not be any now.

I am not prepared to go either buy yet another writer and failure, to end up searching for answers for something which really should not happen.

I am getting to the point where I am seriously considering going Linux.

Windows 11 does not support external DVD players. I spent hundreds of dollars on different softwares to remedy the situation. The best I was able to get was a continual freeze and skip in a movie.

Recently, I purchased an Mac compatible LG DVD writer. It is supposed to be able to burn the long-storage millennium discs. I also purchased a pack of Maxell DVD-R Maxdata discs. Questions:

Can I use this LG writer with a Windows 11 machine?

Which DVD burners will work with the millennium discs?

Thanks,

DMS

Hello. On my Windows Media Player Legend when I go to burn a cd/dvd it says to connect an external driver. I was wondering what recommendations you have for downloading one?
