what does a dot mean next to a folder name?

Hi,   i have been tranferring some photos from my Macbook onto my external hard drive (file format is FAT 32) a dot has appeared next to the folder name of one of the folders of pics.  None of the images can be opened in this 1 folder (rest of images can be opened and viewed.  When i try to open i get a dialog box saying File is corrupt.  Is this what the dot means?  if so what can i do to fix this problem (and hopefully i can as i have some great shots in this file).

You may try renaming the folder again and check.

a)    Click on Start.

b)    Right-click on Pictures Folder and select Rename.

c)    Rename the folder and try to remove the dot mark.

d)    Restart the system and check.
