Webcam Issue with the camera application of microsoft

Dear Sir or Madam,

My microsoft application "camera" is not launching. I can start the application, the camera logo appears, but then it is frozen on the logo and nothing happens.

What is strange is that "camera" is working properly after turning on the computer, my webcam is providing correctly a visual for 5 minutes, then it is not working anymore.

Even stranger, when I check the parameters of the camera and try to test it, the capture is always working perfectly.

I am on windows 11.

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Hi Randompersonne

I'm Christine, a Windows user like you. I can see here that your camera is not working properly and just giving you a camera logo. No worries, I'll do my best to help you.

May I know if you are seeing a camera logo with X on it?
Is there any changes made before you got this issue?
Please send the make and model of your device. (Please press Windows key + R and type msinfo32 and hit enter, look for system model)

Please check and follow the steps below:

1. Please check the upper part of your keyboard and look for the Fn key with Camera icon on it. Once you saw it, please press on it. Kindly check if it will resolve the issue.
2. Please check the side of your physical camera if is there a small slider with it, please make sure that it's turned on or please slide it on.
3. Kindly check the side of your laptop and see if is there a switch to turn on the camera.

Please also check the permission. Please follow the steps from the link below:

Hello Christine,

This response will be long because the subject is complex.

My camera logo does not have an X on it. When I open the camera app, I am first stuck to this part.

Then, after waiting for 2 minutes, it displays that screen:

From french : "Impossible to start your camera. If you are sure that the camera is correctly connected and installed, search for driver updates.

If you need it, the error code is : 0xA00F429F<WindowShowFailed> (0x80121505)."

If I press Ok, I get:

" We need your autorisation. To use this app, modify the permissions to allow this app to use your cam and your microphone."

However, they are already accepted in my cam permission:

If I press ok, nothing happens, I am stuck at this asking permission screen without being able to use the app.

In my camera parameters, I can check if the cam is working or not, and it is. (I hide my cam, that is why there are no forms. But it is able to display the colors)

I made no change, driver nor software, before this issue happened.

I do not have a Fn key with a cam logo on it. I do not have a physical switch to disable or enable my webcam.

Here is the model of my device.

I searched for expalnations and found a discussion about the same issue.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/error-0xa00f429fwindowshowfailed0xc00d36bb/b66ef702-b3ef-400f-a79b-f9f06abfb1cb

In another discussion, I found an interesting link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/camera-is-not-work-error-code-0xa00f429f/13b10e8f-432c-404f-8082-dfd138001b0f

The link proposed a solution via the registry editor that I tried: https://windowsbulletin.com/fix-windows-10-cant-start-your-camera-0xa00f429f-error/

After that, I still have the issue. However, if I open the camera app after a turning on, I have no problem, I can use and record. However, when I close the camera app and reopen it, the issue is restarting. So I have repaired for only 1 use of the camera.

Sincerely,

Hello,

Thanks for the update. Appreciated.
If I may ask, have you tried to reinstall the camera app already?
Are you getting the same issue when using other apps that uses camera?

Please check and follow the steps below:

1. Update Windows
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upd...

2. Update or Rollback the Camera driver
Please press the Windows key + X
Then click Device manager
Kindly expand the Cameras
Right click and choose "Update Driver"
Select "Search automatically for drivers"
If the issue persists Choose "Browse my computer for driver" instead
and click " Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
Choose the older version.
Please restart and check if the issue persists.

3. Reinstall Camera app
Please click Start menu and type Powershell, right click on it and choose Run as admin. Please copy and paste the command below and hit enter to uninstall the camera app

Get-AppxPackage *camera* | Remove-AppxPackage

Once done, restart your device and please open the MS Store and download the camera app from there. Please check if that will do the trick.

Thank you,
Christine

Hello Christine,

I reinstall the Camera App, but the situation did not change.

My Windows is updated, and there is no driver update available. I cannot change my camera driver as I only have 1 driver available on my device for it, HP Wide Vision HD Camera.

Sincerely,

Dear Christine,

I have done that update this week-end. However, the issue is still here, I cannot use the camera app.

Does this issue have a link with the registry editor?
