"Virus scan failed" notice

When I try to download a EXE file onto my computer I get a "Virus scan failed" notice.
I contacted McAfee, which was the file I was trying to download, and they suggested that
I contact you as they were thinking it was a registry entry of windows defender.

Using Windows Home 10 with 64 bit system on a HP Pavilion
Can you help?

Thank you

Answer
Hi SteveHols,

My name is Pedro. I'm an Independent Advisor trying to help.

Which Web Browser are you using to download the file?

Have you tried a different one?

Give a try to this.

1.- Press Windows + R key at the same time and you will get the “Run” dialog box.

2.- Type “regedit” and hit ok. Now you will get registry editor window.

3.- Navigate to-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE >Microsoft >Windows >CurrentVersion >Policies >Attachments

4.- Now double-click on “ScanWithAntivirus” registry key and change its value to “1” which is by default “3“. Changing the key value to “1” actually, tells the browser not to scan for the downloaded program or files.

Regards.
