Virtual Router

I upgraded to windows 10 and my virtual router does not work anymore

I set up Windows 10 hotspot (internet sharing), I can see the network name on my iPhone but it does not get connected, any ideas how this problem can be fixed?

Hi MoYara and thanks for reaching out. My name is Joseph. I'm an independent adviser. I'll be happy to help you out today.

You may try following these steps.

1. Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin)
2. Then type the following:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=TEST key=pass123
3. Enter
4. Then type :
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
5. Then try connecting to the internet.

Note: SSID is the name of your wifi so you can change the TEST in any name you want.

Key is your password so you can change the value pass123 to any password you want.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Thank you!

Hi MoYara,
if your virtual router is a third-party software, uninstall it and only enable the Windows mobile hotspot.
If it does not work, Enable / disable ICS. Try to follow this procedure: Go to network connections, access the properties of the network adapter connected to the internet> Sharing tab, enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) by selecting the checkbox: Allow to other network users ... and confirm by pressing OK.
(Skip this step if ICS is already enabled). Return to the Sharing tab, disable ICS and confirm by pressing OK.
Then go to Settings> Network and Internet and enable the mobile hotspot.
Note: When using the Windows Integrated Mobile Hotspot feature, the checkboxes on the Sharing tab must remain unchecked, otherwise the Mobile Hotspot will not work. If you do not resolve, try to restore the network: Settings> Network and internet> Status. Click on Restore network to the side and follow the instructions. Try to temporarily uninstall any third-party firewall / antivirus software.
