Version Issue

I recently (tonight) bought a valid Windows 10 Home product key. It installed no problem but keeps saying windows cannot activate. It shows as Windows 10 Pro and I need to downgrade it to Home. The Virtual Assistant is a piece of crap and keeps leading me to the same useless articles. Customer support is always stuck at 30 plus mins in que. How do I change it to Home not Pro. Just spent 151 on this ridiculous piece of crap and am wondering why an online chat with a tech is not an option.
Hello Jared,

My name is Patricia and I am an Independent Advisor. I am here to help you today.

To downgrade to W10 Home, you need to perform a clean install.
Then you will be able to activate your system.

Hi Jared
I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

The only way to downgrade Pro to Home is a clean install of Windows 10 Home again. You can use below guide by Greg Carmack, MVP for this purpose. This is the best method to perform a clean install of Windows 10. (If you want to rescue your files, there is a section Rescue Files when Windows Won't Start)

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

If you want a very lightweight guide - Start fresh with a clean installation of Windows 10

Do let me know if you require any further help on this. Will be glad to help you.
Sincerely yours,
Vijay A. Verma @ https://excelbianalytics.com

Hi Jared, I'm Graeme, an independent adviser here to help.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with activation. I'll give you a few things to do to try to fix the issue.

Firstly, check what version of Windows 10 is installed. Click Start and type "winver", then you should see "winver run command". Click on that, and it'll bring up some information that should let you know if Windows 10 Pro or Home is installed.

If you've got Windows 10 Pro installed, you'll need to perform a clean install of Windows 10 Home to change to the correct installation.

Here's a link to download the Media Creation Tool, which will help you to install Windows 10 Home:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-downlo...

Here's a tutorial with further steps on how to clean install if you need:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/for...

Please let me know how you go! Thanks!

Hi,
I am Ganesh Gandhi, an Independent Advisor and Office Insider for Android. I am here to work with you on this problem.

It is advised to have Clean Install of Windows 10 Home, but if you have
backup of all files and ready to use some time saving option, try this:

Since you got Windows 10 Home License Key, you can try this to prevent clean install of Windows:

Kindly follow these steps.
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion Change these registry keys: Product name = Windows 10 Home Edition id = core

Navigate to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Change these registry keys: Product name = windows 10 Home Edition id = core

There's another setting called "Composition ID" which must be changed from "Professional" or "Enterprise" to "Core" in two places.

Download media creation tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-downlo...

Mount Windows ISO and install Windows 10 Home.
