Using Airpods with my windows 10 PC

I have been having issues connecting my airpods to the Bluetooth on my windows 10 PC. After initially working very easily (with my PC) for a week after connecting them the first time after the setup with my iPhone it is very hard to get the PC to recognize them as voice and music enabled. I usually have to go through multiple cycles of removing the device from the Bluetooth settings and reconnecting to get it to detect music and voice.

I have already tried factory resetting my airpods but that only worked once. I find it very confusing that sometimes my pc identifies the airpods as just music and other times as voice and music. It should always be identified as voice and music because of the mic in the airpods.

If someone has any insight into this it would be very helpful.

Good day Mike_066! I am Independent Advisor Paul R. and also a Microsoft/Windows user like you and I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are having an issue with regards to using your Airpods on your PC. I have an Airpods (Pro) myself and in my opinion is that it is not that nearly as 100% working perfectly all the time. Usually what I do to make it work is the following.

- Right click on the speaker/sound icon on the lower right portion of the system tray
- Click on Sounds
- Under Playback, it will either be Headset set as Default Communication Device and Headphones set as Default Device
- Usually, if I encounter an issue is that I just interchange them by doing a right click on them and swap the setting on it
- Another thing that I am doing for example if I am experiencing an issue with Zoom(desktop app) is that I change the Audio settings from the app to use the Same as system and that is where the issue will go away

Regards,
Paul R.

Hi Paul!

Thanks for responding! This was very helpful and worked for me! Do you have any idea what is going on in the background that causes it not to automatically connect? The first week after I set it up on my iPhone and connected to my PC it would connect to voice and music right after I opened he Airpods case. Then after loosing the connection because I was out of range the issue began.

I would also love if we could get this issue to the people in charge of Microsoft updates if it is some type of bug that is causing it to not automatically connect.

Thanks again!

Hi Mike_066, this depends if your Airpods is also associated to another device and when that device also has its Bluetooth on then you will encounter an issue and in my experience is that there are times that you will really need to remove the pairing and pair it again to work properly and I am not sure if it is a sort of bug but that is the work around that I am doing on my end (ensure that no other Bluetooth device is on that is also associated with Airpods and unpair and pair it again if issue has been encountered).
