User folder is now Music folder

Hi there...

I decided to move my default user folders (Documents, Downloads, Pictures, etc.) to a different location (my D drive) and after successfully moving several folder, I apparently made a mistake. I moved my "Music" folder to my User folder and now my personal user folder is called "Music" and it contains all my user files. Ugh! I don't know how to undo this error. I saw a previous discussion that gave instructions for a similar situation and Keith A. Miller helped the person solve it without doing a system restore. I don't know how to "tag" a person in these community boards, but maybe someone can help me with that.

Thank you so much!

Hi Julia

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor

Click View and make sure 'Address Bar' is turned on

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Please provide a screenshot of the resulting Registry Editor window . . .

Hi Julia

Open the Registry Editor again, it will still be on the same page

1
Double click 'My Music' then set its value data to this and click OK

%USERPROFILE%\Music

2
Double click {A0C69A99-21C8-4671-8703-7934162FCF1D}' then set its value data to this and click OK

%USERPROFILE%\Music

3
Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC

That will have reset the Shell folder references, you may need to manually move your music files form the Users folder into the Music folder contained in your Profile folder . . .

Okay... Thank you so much! That restored the Music folder, but my username is still showing as "Music" and looks just like screenshot I included in my original post. It didn't restore it back to my username.

Hi Julia

Sorry, I was offline, that is normal, it can take Windows File Explorer a while to catch up with that change . . .

1
Open Windows File Explorer, go to C:\Users

Is the actual folder name on your user account Music, or is that named correctly?

2
Open the registry editor again, paste this into the address bar and hit Enter

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/ProfileList

Please provide a screenshot of that window . . .
