USB type c hub not working properly

Hello all,

I recently purchased a type C hub with 3 type a ports. My aim was to plug my wireless mouse and keyboard into the hub to free up some usb ports on my laptop.

The laptop is an Asus ROG GL502. However, I found that if I plugged in my mouse and keyboard, they wouldn't work. My mouse (logitech mx master) would show that the receiver only got power momentarily before power was lost and my mouse was disconnected. The only way to get the mouse working on the hub was to plug in my phone charger (ie drawing power through the type c port). The same can be said when I swap my mouse for my keyboard.

Even when I plugged in the keyboard without the phone charging, the LED's would light up but I would be unable to type anything. I have tried updating all usb drivers, turning power management off and updating intel drivers, MS drivers etc.

I tried the usb hub on another laptop and it worked perfectly without the phone charging so I can rule out that it is a faulty usb hub.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks!

USB type C is not backward compatible. See here: https://www.howtogeek.com/211843/usb-type-c-exp...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hello Greg,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm sorry but I do not understand what you mean by type c being not backward compatible.

It's a type c hub with 3 type a connectors on it. My mouse and keyboard works when my phone is charging off of it. It's only when I unplug my phone that it doesn't work properly.

Regards,

Snoop

I've read the article already so yes I have read about the backward compatibility.

FYI this is the hub that I've bought.

Does the hub require a power supply?
Some USB drives require additional power which the hub doesn’t supply.
