USB Drive Errors "Please insert a disk into USB Drive D:" and has no media

let's keep this quick for everyone's time, I have a usb drive and when I was downloading files to it my laptop died and when I booted it back up and plugged my usb drive in it wouldn't show up in file explorer and I've been trying to fix it for around an hour with no luck

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

That 'Insert disk' error usually indicates the USB drive has failed, that is most likely caused by the laptop dying while data was being written to the drive.

1
Is that USB drive an external hard drive or a USB flash drive?

2
If you connect the USB drive up to another PC, is that USB also not working in that PC?

Hello Dave, I have the same problem with a USB flash drive. It is not working on either a laptop or desktop. It is listed in "This PC" and when clicked on it in the right pane, the "Please insert a disk into USB Drive (D:)." error message.

In my situation - The USB is not corrupt it works on another PC. I have the same sort of issue issue on this PC with my WD 5TB external storage. The error logs are saying The device settings were not migrated from previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match.
