USB 2.0 printer to USB 3.0 port

Is there an adaptor or convertor you can use so my HP printer will work when plugged into a 3.0 usb port?

None is required, USB 3 ports are backwards compatible with USB 1/2 devices and leads. The extra terminals of USB 3 are in a second row which a USB 2 lead does not connect to.

USB C is different and yes Amazon do sell adapters for these.

As Hairy Fool explained, you can plug a USB 2 device into a USB 3 port and a USB 3 device in a USB 2 port.

Possibly because at the time of preparation of the documentation USB 3 was not defined and not considered.

One of the problems they had when developing the USB 3 port was maintaining compatibility  with USB 2 devices and connections. As they succeeded backward compatibility was maintained.

It also means computer manufacturers only have to fit USB 3 as they will still work with USB 2 devices.

Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor available from the following link:

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c02073861

If the printer keeps insisting on a USB 2.0 port try giving it one by plugging a USB 2.0 hub (if you have one) into the USB 3.0 port and connect the printer to the USB 2.0 hub.

In theory, it should be.  But not all devices are for some reason.  The exact error is "[Device Name] can't work properly with USB 3.0"  Not sure why but then most computer equipment have a mind of heir own...
