Upgrade Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10

Download completes

Verification completes

Install Tool stops and tells me there was a problem.

Error Code : 0xC1800103 - 0x90002

I google'd this and a number of solutions came up.

I followed the suggestions but still receive the same error code.

Is there a solution to this problem.

Hi RagB. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

Follow these steps for Overcoming Upgrade problems: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Please post a screenshot of Disk Management, which I read like a doctor reads X-rays. Follow the steps here so I can see everything needed to advise you: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/foru...

Consider doing the gold standard Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

The reason I suggest this is that no one who has adopted the install in the above link has ever come back to report further problems I've seen, including another version failure. This is because everything in Windows 10 is dependent upon the quality of the install, especially Version Updates which will choke on lesser quality installs. Whether we like it or not, this is where we are in Windows 10.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hello, Ragbjg01,

1. Follow these steps.

2. Download the Media Creation Tool and create installation Media for your device.

Go to another pc > Select Using the tool to create installation media on another machine

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

3. I suggest doing a Clean Install. Ensure you have your Windows 7 Key. Use ShowKeyPlus utility to get the key. Write it down and keep it in a safe place.

Attached is a picture of the Windows 7 Pro laptop DISK MANAGEMENT screen that you wanted.

I used a Windows 10 laptop to download the Windows 10 upgrade program on to a USB 64GB stick but during the install on the Windows 7 Pro laptop, I received this other picture showing a failure to install.

I tried it two ways - both methods failed to install:

1. Save the files and apps.
2. Save nothing.

If I were to use the gold standard clean install, must I clean the entire hard drive first before I attempt the upgrade install from the stick again?
I thought the Windows 10 upgrade program cleaned the hard drive when I selected the "Save Nothing" but I guess it doesn't.
Thanks for your assistance.

Bob G

When you select Nothing it does not clean the drive. There is an option to wipe the drive clean.

Edit: Changed Tutorial Link

There's a screenshot in this tutorial showing Remove Files and clean the drive.

One other concern:

If I wipe the drive clean of the Windows 7 Pro in advance, will

the (upgrade) Windows 10 software program that I downloaded to a data stick still work?

I worry that an "upgrade" program needs to see the Windows 7 OS to proceed with the install of the upgrade.

Am I overthinking this?

Bob

If you haven't upgraded to Windows 10 you do not want to wipe the drive clean. The Windows 7 product key is necessary to connect to the Digital License key.

Once you have upgraded to Windows 10 and the Digital License is connected using your Windows 7 key you may then perform a clean install and wipe the drive clean. You then install Windows 10 on the drive.

You might wish to use ShowKeyPlus to get the Windows 7 key and the Digital License for Windows 10. This is just incase you may need to install Windows 7 then upgrade to Windows 10 in future.

Read this Informative Tutorial about using ShowKeyPlus.
